My first daylight saving time with Betty... Oh. My. God. This cat thinks she is going to absolutely starve. Less than a year ago, she literally was starving, a bad ass kitten of the streets, now a pampered suburban cat of leisure. How soon we forget, lol.

What are the chances they'll allow Sentinel-1A to remain operational after 1D is commissioned like Sentinel-2A?
7 days until liftoff! 🚀

The GloFAS forecast hydrograph for a river in southeast Cuba is remarkable. The 25th quantile of the hydrograph is north of the 100 year flow. That upper tail..that's Noah's Arc territory. If it validates, #HurricanMelissa is bringing epic flooding after the wind destruction.

🌊 Let's talk about something: We don't need another startup building "the world's most accurate flood model." A thread 🧵

tl;dr 👉 Stop chasing marginal gains in flood depth accuracy and start building the smart, human-centered tools that actually save properties and lives.

@support.bsky.team Why am I blocked because of Mississippi's shite law when I live in Alabama? I'm 60 miles inside of Alabama. Your net is too freaking big.

Step one ✔️
Separation from third stage. This is a highly complex satellite and the rest of pre commissioning activities are just as difficult as launching successfully into orbit. But a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Watched the CUAHSI/CIROH Summer Institute Capstone today. The amount of work those young grad students completed in five weeks was extraordinary. Fantastic science. The kids, as they say, are alright.

Nailed the feature space + sampling code for SAR RF model. First mini training done — and of course RF picked totally different features than expected. Not a dealbreaker, but I’ve got to rethink the whole training scene strategy. #RemoteSensing

When classifying #Sentinel1 data, does anyone have a trick for getting water features in their classification model in long fetch winds? Thinking of using a Gaussian Mixture Model to cluster the wind and use that with its associated probs with my other data in a random forest.

Wow! I’ve never seen anything like this 😱

This CCTV footage captures the powerful M7.7 earthquake that struck Myanmar in March. You can clearly see the dramatic shift in the ground.

You need to watch it a few times to take everything in. Don't be distracted by the gate. Absolutely surreal.

What follows if we imagine rivers as having lives, deaths––& even rights?
I wrote this essay about water & hope; imagining rivers “otherwise”; nature’s rights; grammars of animacy; & how our fate flows with that of rivers—& always has.

I left the leaves and needles sit on the lawn all winter, hoping to support the invertebrates in my yard. The fireflies had quite the emergence last night. I decided to mow the lawn finally. Not sure the fireflies benefited, but good God the stink bugs sure as hell did. Like mowing in a gas chamber.

It absolutely proves your society is misogynistic and racist when the first person in a field who breaks the color barrier or gender barrier inevitably ends up as hall of fame material. Another way of saying that is don't apply to these positions unless you're the best one in the world.

An Rstats joke in the wild. This is the good stuff. I miss R being my primary coding language so badly...
The problem with #rstats is portability. Shit like `df$x` has to be converted to `df€x` in Europe and `df£x` in the UK but nobody talks about this.
