I won CubeCon 2025!

Top 8 RW Aggro deck
Top 64 BR Artifact-y sac
Had an incredible time, every cube I drafted was great, and I’m excited to come back next year for another great event!

I’m known locally for only drafting mardu, and I went back and looked at what colors I drafted over the weekend over 8 drafts.
W-5/8
U-1/8
B-7/8
R-5/8
G-1/8
Sounds about right. 😅
Lastly, the MTGO vintage cube draft. First picked spectacular spider-man since it seemed strong. Got hooked up in pack two with the sequence of karakas, guide of souls, mom, pride and ajani. Did not think I would make it to Top 8, let alone the finals. Made some very risky choices R2 that got there.
Ended playing the Chicago cube for Top 64 and had a functional deck for the first time with this cube. Round 2 I threw away a game I had basically locked-up, then had to win games 2 & 3 on top of that. Didn’t tilt too hard and was able to make it through. Games were incredibly close and fun.
Played Spicy Ramen in the cut to Top 64. The cube budget restriction was awesome. Got to see some cards I was fond of that typically don’t make the cut in other cubes. Deck felt very strong and my Round 3 opponent ended up conceding due to it being quite late and the lack of stakes. “3-0”
Drafted Peasant+ to round out the main event. Had a fairly solid BW deck that played very well against the token decks. Having night clubber and shrouded shepherd to clear tokens and recurring accursed marauder to kill off strong nontokens was neat. Lost a very close match in the finals to go 2-1.
Saturday’s first cube was the Option’s Cube. Had a blast with a Jund rock-style deck. Balduvian atrocity getting back EWit and flipping Grist is pretty cool. I also got to loop EWit and Wretched Confluence, which was sweet. Lost to a very strong fliers deck round 2. The 2-1 finishes continue.
Second cube on Friday was the Grixis Desert Cube. Built a fairly strong artifact deck, made a very poor mulligan decision round 1 and lost because of it. The 2-1 finishes continue.
First main draft was Sandman, a desert cube where lands are the name of the game. Deck felt kinda middling, had to scrape for my 2-1 finish. Rounds did go kinda long, but overall I enjoyed the draft and gameplay. I would cut Wellspring from the cube though, it ate up a bunch of time in the match.
First draft was on Thursday with the Circle of Life cube. A desert cube where all creatures have emerge. My favorite cube of the weekend and I really enjoyed how my evaluation of creatures changed. Part of winning my first round was wrathing the board repeatedly to stop a Bogardin Hellkite. 3-0

Pool photos are in order starting top left and going down.
Yup, there was a situation where my opponent Round 1 played Yavimaya and I could have cycled it.

Looks like the town was big enough.

It’s crazy that just being around JD Vance killed the Pope.
6th pick in the Roto draft again 😭
Took my engagement photos today in the 8 degree weather. At least no one was around to be in the shot.
Not really a New Years Resolution guy, but this year I’m going to read more. Didn’t read hardly anything last year and I want to recapture the passion I had for reading.
It’s one of the two initiative cards. I would probably take the green one.
I very much enjoy working in the email mines.
Played a great bar cube yesterday that had a few cards sharpied to have learn/lesson. Borderlands Ranger was the goat, ETB Demonic Tutor because all you want is lands.
If you’re seat 7 and seat 8 has a real job, it’s just over for you.
Played a lovely little mushroom board game deckbuilder called Mycelia last night. The fact that your hand is always three cards with no ability to draw more made it have a very nice pace. There was also the rest of the game, which was good.
