The rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution are non-negotiable – the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will not let our Guard be illegally used against our own people. (3/3)
My amendment to a recent bill is simple: by creating a comprehensive training curriculum for service members, Massachusetts is empowering our National Guard with the knowledge they need to determine, in the event that they are federalized, whether the orders they receive are lawful. (2/3)
National Guard troops across the country are being asked to potentially violate the sovereignty of other states and the constitutional rights of ordinary Americans by a president who wants to use them like pawns in his game of intimidation. 🧵(1/3)
Commissioner of the DESE Pedro Martinez joined myself, Sen Robyn Kennedy, Rep David LeBoeuf, and other local leaders last week to tour Worcester Technical High School. During our visit, we talked to students and sat in on their incredible hands-on lessons.
Boston, Cambridge, and Providence already have similar plans, and this ordinance was unanimously passed by the City Council — now I'm working with my colleagues on Beacon Hill to get it signed into law.
I'm working with Mayor Petty, Councilor Mero-Carlson, and Representative O'Day to implement an Institutional Master Plan ordinance in Worcester to require large organizations like colleges and universities to submit long-term plans and work with their neighbors to ensure their growth is sustainable.
Recently, several colleges in Worcester have been unilaterally expanding their footprints — buying up properties in Gateway Park, Lincoln Square, and more. While we are thrilled to see these schools succeed, they have an obligation to work with the communities they are changing when they do so.
Opinion/Guest column: City deserves transparency on college expansion plans
What is needed are new tools and commitments to strengthen the city’s tax base and create jobs for Worcester residents and local college graduates.

Worcester's Hill-O-Ween is always one of my favorite events of the year, and this year's was no different! It was so much fun handing out candy and meeting neighbors on Union Hill Friday.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Halloween! I hope your evening is full of tasty treats, spooky costumes, and great memories with your friends and neighbors. 🎃👻
Every worker should have a seat at the table, including right here on Beacon Hill. I am so thrilled to have had two of my former Chiefs of Staff lead this movement — Shelly MacNeill and Morgan Simko — and it was an honor to testify alongside them today, along with my friend Senator Jamie Eldridge.
While a majority of Senate Staff have signed union cards, law does not explicitly allow them to unionize. Staff are responsible for so much of the day-to-day operations of the State House, including working constituent services, ironing out the details of legislation, updating social media, & more.
Today, I had the opportunity to testify in favor of S.1343, a bill that would allow legislative staffers the right to form a union. This has been an effort years in the making — dozens of Senate staff, including two of my former Chiefs of Staff, have tirelessly worked to organize their colleagues.
Thank you to everyone who came out today, to my friend Rep Hawkins, and to Falco, a Red-tailed Hawk anticoagulant rodenticide survivor rescued by the New England Wildlife Center who joined us on the State House steps!
We know how to control rats and mice without the use of anticoagulant rodenticides — it's time to create regulations that reserve these powerful poisons only as a last resort.
Dozens of advocates came to rally in support of wildlife and testify in favor of S.644/H.965, Rep Hawkins and I's bills curbing the use of anticoagulant rat poisons. These poisons accumulate in the bodies of animals who eat rodents, endangering hawks, bobcats, eagles, foxes, and other animals.
Anyone can fly a drone. While federal law limits how we can regulate them on the state level, my bill banning the weaponization of drones is becoming more urgent by the day.

If signed into law, S.1208 would ban the manufacture, sale, or use of drones and other robots that are mounted with a weapon.
Can you shoot down a drone hovering over your property in Massachusetts? What the law says
Here's a rundown of the basic rules for operating a drone, according to the FAA, and what to know if a drone flies over your home.

I'm so thrilled to share that my bill designating Diwali Day as a state holiday has been advanced out of committee. This legislation, if signed into law, would recognize the importance of the Festival of Lights to our Indian-American and Hindu communities here in Massachusetts.
Bill S.2184

Advocates delivered over 7,500 signatures to my office in support of S.588, to create a Climate Change Superfund.

This bill, which I am a co-sponsor of, would require the biggest polluters to set aside dollars for those affected by extreme weather — a burden that currently falls on taxpayers.
Wishing a very Happy Diwali to all who are celebrating the Hindu Festival of Lights!
As of today, every homebuyer in the Commonwealth will have the right to request a home inspection before the completion of a sale.

That means buyers will be able to know if the home they are about to spend their life savings on is in good condition before they commit to buying it.
New law on home sales takes effect in Massachusetts
A new real estate law takes effect in Massachusetts on October 15, designed to prevent home sellers from accepting an offer based on a buyer waiving a home inspection.

It was a pleasure to visit Post 22 for their ribbon cutting in Westborough last week! This organization provides real-world job training and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, helping them gain independence and work in their communities through programs like Ben's Beans!
Today, Representative Hannah Kane and I hosted a roundtable discussion on women's health and Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C). We heard from doctors, dietitians, advocates, and patients about this serious lifelong condition and how it affects the lives of those who live with it.
