Today for Black History Month, I am highlighting the work of August Wilson, who created a decade-by-decade historical record of Black life in America. By centering ordinary Black Pittsburghers as historical subjects, his "Pittsburgh Cycle" shifted whose stories are considered worthy of preservation.

Today for Black History Month, I am highlighting Hazel Garland, who documented every day Black life in Pittsburgh's Hill District and personally shaped how we remember Black history. In 1974, she was appointed as the new editor-in-chief of the New Pittsburgh Courier.
