Almost 200 birds ringed in the past week at Wild Woodbury #rewilding site. Around half were Chiffchaff, with high numbers now moving through. Redstart, Firecrest, and a few Grasshopper Warbler still passing through amongst other highlights. @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
First ones are Birch Polypore, also known as Razorstrop. The bunch look like a species of Domecap, but I can't tell the specific species I'm afraid.
Top left is Fly Agaric, top right might be Penny Bun, bottom left is a species of milk cap, possibly Ugly Milk Cap, unsure on bottom right
A successful survey yesterday for Large Marsh Grasshopper, with several individuals seen and heard on a @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social reserve.

Hit 4000 birds ringed at Carey this autumn today with a monster of a 20.0g Sedge Warbler! However, the stand out highlight of the morning was this stunning HOBBY!! Not something I ever thought I would be lucky enough to catch!
It's looking nice at the moment and plenty of migrants passing through. Let me know if you see anything particularly interesting!
Autumn sessions @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social rewilding site, Wild Woodbury, have been excellent so far this Autumn. Quieter today, but 44 birds of 17 species gave a nice variety. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social

1. This is a thread about why Food Waste is so often, and wrongly, identified as the major problem with the food system. Yes, it's an issue, but in the rich world, it's far smaller than many others. It’s massively over-emphasised, while other, far more important problems, are ignored and avoided. 🧵

I’d agree with May-June, both for the SSSI chalk downland on the steep sides of the bowl, and for the wildflower meadows in the bottom of the bowl
There are a lot of public footpaths across the site, so lots of access available. We’re in the process of putting in extra permissive paths to previously unavailable parts of the site too
Nice to get 3 Wheatear on a bird survey @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social Lyscombe reserve this morning. Soon to be joined by Yellowhammer in pic 3. My first Whitethroat of the year was also very welcome. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social #dorsetbirds
It may well be the same one moving through again on migration, impossible to know without it being ringed or having individual features, but lovely regardless of whether it’s the same or a new bird!
After having one a couple of years ago, another Black Redstart has turned up in the garden this morning 🔥 @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social
What better way to spend #worldrewildingday than at the final day of @rewildingbritain.org.uk conference in Dorset. A great three days visiting @harbourbirds.bsky.social, @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social, and @nationaltrust.bsky.social, before a day discussing how we can accelerate rewilding in the UK.
An amazing record of a ringed Buzzard found just off Wild Woodbury #rewilding site, originally ringed just 6km away in Wareham Forest in 2000 - making this bird 25 years old. @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social
Juv White-tailed Eagle drifting over Wareham/Carey @harbourbirds.bsky.social
An excellent @harbourbirds.bsky.social cruise yesterday. WT Eagles, Marsh & Hen Harriers, 3 Goshawk, Spoonbill, and much more. #dorsetbirds

We’re absolutely thrilled to have just won Attraction of the Year at the #DorsetTA Tourism Awards for our Osprey cruises last year. What a great state of affairs that an eco-event has just won this award. Huge thanks to everyone who made these possible @bournemouthecho.bsky.social
Hi Jamie, if you drop me an email at [email protected] I can send you some over. Are there any in particular you’re after?
2024 has been the best year of ringing at Wild Woodbury #rewilding site, with new species including Wryneck and Lesser Whitethroat amongst almost 900 birds. You can read the full report of the year, here: acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:...
