Looking forward to the @sallyartistsmakers Artists & Makers fair at Thame Town Hall on 8th Nov, 10am-4pm, where I'll showcase my items, including bowls and lidded containers. Various talented makers will offer items for sale—perfect for early Christmas shopping! Hope to see you there!
Enjoyed making these Ash Wood bowls - I got the timber as logs from a wind fallen tree, and love the contrasting colours within them. Once I had the logs, I cut/split them up, part turned them, and left to dry for about 6 months (to reduce the moisture content). They now turn beautifully !
Developed a painful dental abscess just 2 days after returning from school holidays. It's frustrating since I maintain good dental health. The abscess, likely related to an old molar issue, means I can't safely use machinery, so I'm off until next week. I'll address the molar problem once I recover.
Back after 7 weeks off for School Holidays - easing myself back in with some small bowls so I can get back to the rhythm of turning again. Am always nervous about going back after so much time - will I remember how to turn - it takes a bit of time but I'm back into the rhythm again now.
Short video showing my Heart Shaped Bowl, in English Oak, available on my Etsy Shop (see profile page & linktr), hand made by myself within the UK on my wood turning lathe.

Great to hear Birmingham Jewellery Quarter awarded World Craft status. I have family ties to the Quarter since the late 19th century, with my 3x great uncle William Hare Hassler creating Liberties pieces in the early 20th century. It’s wonderful that craft skills are being recognized and valued.
I've been exploring contrasting wood colours and tonal differences, focusing on wood tone, finish, and shadows, plus the size of various tones. I like the new shape I'm creating, with a curve turning into the top, adding movement and contrast. These are small items - jewellery box or as decor.
I've recently been working on this Sycamore Lidded container, I'm pleased with how the shape and over look & feel of this has come off - it's quite small (6.7cm diameter, 6cm high) and would work well either as a decorative piece, or to store small items in.

I've recently been working on some pedestal pieces, including this lovely ring bowl - from English Oak, from the National Trust's Ashridge Estate, finished carefully in Microcrystalline Wax.

Last one before we break for Easter - have been experimenting with vertical forms for a while when I have time - here is another, with a hole in the top that can be use for dried flowers, pen pot, etc., all with my usual styling. Will be working more on these sometime after Easter!

Enjoyable day stewarding at the @buckinghamshirecraftguild again today - the slightly better weather has brought more people out today! Lots of great hand made items here!
The Buckinghamshire Craft Guild is at Swanbourne for today and tomorrow (5th & 6th April), I'll be there Sunday afternoon 1-4pm to talk about my work - be great to see you there. Free entry, lots of varied disciplines & work to see.
Cutting up Ash wood from windfallen logs revealed amazing colors and textures. I used traditional techniques like metal wedges and a sledgehammer when possible, and the rest with a chainsaw. Great for straight-grained, defect-free wood, yielding great stable pieces. Hard work, but enjoyed it!
I'm busy preparing for upcoming exhibitions. On May 10th, I'll join an Artists and Maker fayre with @sallyartistsmakers. With Easter approaching, I need to start creating now. I'll bring ring dishes and a range of other items like bowls, lidded containers, and more.

Really looking forward to taking part in this exhibition, as part of Buckinghamshire Craft Guild - setup is this week, with the exhibition starting on Saturday 29th March - do come along! It even has one of my pieces on the art work! Free entry, lots of varied disciplines & work to see.
Exploring vertical forms, using silver-plated wire and beads. This is just the beginning of my design journey, refining ideas from paper to wood and back. This piece, along with others, will be on display at the Swanbourne Exhibition with the Buckinghamshire Craft Guild. Come and see the collection.
This week, I began rough turning some Ash log pieces I cut earlier. They have lovely figures, and I managed to get larger pieces. These will dry for a few months, and I'll monitor them before turning them into proper shapes when dry.

I've started cutting up the Ash logs from a customer, finding beautiful figures within. It's a challenge to decide where to cut for the best wood and avoid unstable parts. Marking the logs a few days prior helps me plan, but there are always surprises.

I've been experimenting with some vertical forms recently, this is a smaller one, exploring a few ideas, which is part of the process. This one is made from English Oak. I like the repetition of the beads, and decided not to put a lid on this one, to see how it worked.

I found the knock-out bar that came with my lathe insufficient, so I made one from silver steel with a wooden end. The wooden end serves two purposes: it's easier to hold and heavier, and I can use a wooden mallet to gently dislodge stubborn items.
