Meanwhile up north, people keep dying as tributes are being paid to them. How unfortunate - most people die before the tributes happen, not while they’re taking place… 🤨 Maybe it’s the curse of the Liverpool Echo News. With friends like these…

Delighted to have been asked to write the sleeve notes for Document - the great new album by Edgar Jones.
My vinyl copy just arrived, and it looks and sounds great. The album’s out next week on @av8records.bsky.social: vinyl and CD. I am available for other liner notes projects. 😉 #freelancelife

Doing my tax / accounts, ahead of sending it to my accountant. Not a great year for me financially - no one can accuse me of becoming a freelance journalist to get rich quick, that’s for sure. #freelancelife #toughtimes #handtomouth

Not left the house all day - the kids woke up at 5am…We’ve been on the sofa, watched a lot of Horrible Histories, I finished the new @20thcenturymarc.marcburrows.co.uk book, Mistletoe & Vinyl, which is the story of the Christmas No.1, and we’ve eaten spaghetti bolognaise. An early night beckons.

I really enjoyed reviewing this new @nickheyward.com box set for @super-deluxe.bsky.social: three great albums and loads of extra tracks: demos, b-sides, live songs and previously unreleased gems.

Having a Horrible Histories marathon on the sofa with the boys - we’ve covered a lot of ground this morning: Boudica, William the Conqueror, Henry VIII, The Great Fire of London, Mary Queen of Scots, The Gunpowder Plot, Napoleon, The First World War and The Second World War.

I've written a big piece for the Observer about the Big C. Would be lovely if you find time to read it sometime and feel free to share.

Our local pharmacy in Bucks is next to our GP, but for some reason, they seem incapable of liaising on prescriptions. I’ve just queued up for 20 mins to get repeat prescriptions for our sons that I requested a week ago- one hasn’t been done and the other has been sent to a chemist in Oxfordshire!

Hang on... when did Andy Bell (the one out of Ride and Oasis, not the one out of Erasure), the elusive Dot Allison and krautrock legend Michael Rother team up to do a cover of "I'm In Love With A German Filmstar"?

It’s that time of year when pubs, shops and trains overcompensate for the cold weather by whacking the heating on full. Everywhere is like an old people’s home… 🥵 *takes jumper off.*

One of the books of the year, and great to meet on of your journalistic heroes. The book is a very important book of our time, relating to all things autism and music. The Kraftwerk chapter is very emotional, @johnharris1969.bsky.social

I never saw the Roses live, but I saw Mani with Primal Scream several times, including memorable gigs at the Wedgewood Rooms,in ‘97, Creamfields in ‘98, and Event II, Brighton:2000.They’re still one of my fave live bands:Mani gave them an extra edge and groove.Keep on keeping on…

Some lovely Mani tributes/memories. I never met him, but I spoke to him on the phone:my friend, Alex Lowe, from Hurricane#1, was a mate of his - one night, when Alex and I had been out drinking in Scotland, where Alex lived,he called Mani, and we all had a quick chat! It’s hazy…
