A new thread for the insanity that is about to ensue during October. Time to hit all the classics!

#137 - The Limehouse Golem (2016)
dir. Juan Carlos Medina

I'm not sure how much actual horror is in this, but I do like a good period piece murder mystery. It's certainly gruesome enough in the first 15 minutes

Small child walking past me on my way to work, to his grandmother: "It's a nice fall day today."

Yes, yes it is 😂

I might actually like Part 2 more than the first. Obviously having Jason as the killer helps with that. I'm also positive that the stove in Alice's apartment at the beginning is the same one in mine 😭

Too bad it isn't a Friday today

I can't believe my parents watched The Substance without any prompting from me. My mom's final comment on it: "The ending was very...goopy"

#133 - The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
dir. Jim Sherman

Ending the weekend on a fun note!

Witchfinder General is probably the weakest, but it has Vincent Price so he more than makes up for it
sdkcolin.bsky.social
I always save Blood on Satan's Claw to do a triple feature of the Unholy Trinity with Witchfinder General and The Wicker Man. Other great watches are Mark of the Devil and Eyes of Fire

#132 - The Demon of Mount Oe (1960)

First film from the new Daiei Gothic Vol. 2 set by @filmsradiance.bsky.social Hoping for some good, classic Japanese ghosts and swords!

#131 - The Halloween Tree (1993)
dir. Mario Piluso

Following up with another Ray Bradbury story and one of my favorite Halloween animated movies. Even have the VHS of it! I'm just missing a player these days...

I think the only actual connection is that Halloween (1978) is seen playing on a tv, so that exists as a movie in the universe of Halloween III. It's a whole mood once you take it out from underneath the broader Halloween umbrella though

What I enjoy the most out of Tobe Hooper's filmography is the onset of terror he was able to invoke. You can really feel the way it surges at the ends of TCM and Eaten Alive, and in Poltergeist and TCM 2 it just never seems to stop once it begins

#130 - Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983)

The hard to find gem of Disney/Ray Bradbury horror. Perfect for a gloomy October Sunday

Ju-On: The Grudge

But also most j-horror on my first watches. Ring and Pulse also tapped into an unknown fear of being unable to escape fate. That stretch of late-90s to early-00s is unbelievably solid and the best way to feel fear again after becoming numb to the slasher meatgrinder

#129 - Eaten Alive (1976)
dir. Tobe Hooper

Backcountry cannibal family aren't enough for you? How about Psycho-esque swamp man and his pet crocodile? Bathed in red light, Texas has never looked more terrifying for the wayward traveler. One of my favorite Hooper films

And you know what? Decided I want that sweet new @arrowvideo.bsky.social 4K of In The Mouth of Madness too

#128 - Hellraiser (1987)
dir. Clive Barker

What's your pleasure?

There is such a commanding presence from the Cenobites and a fantastic lead in Kirsty. Don't go poking around ancient Rubik's Cubes if you don't want the whips and chains!

Of the two, I prefer this one more. Didn't plan on watching it just yet, but I dozed off after finishing Gothic and this auto-played so here we are

Glad I'm not the only one with Child's Play. Michael, Freddy, and Jason were all fine but something about Chucky just did not sit well

The word is out that a CVS near me has already started to put Christmas stuff up. You know, the holiday that is 2.5 months away still

#126 - Gothic (1986)

This one has evaded me for years, but I'm 3 minutes in and already loving how cheesy it is

Finally bit the bullet and ordered the Ghosts of Mars 4K. All that's left to complete my Carpenter collection is Dark Star, and that has a 4K release coming out in November
