I think the real wake up call to Progressives in the US is that you can just do stuff. All the "unpopular" or "legally grey" things. There are zero consequences to just doing them. So many positive and restorative possibilities for a theoretical future liberal president.

My hot take? This is not true. They count on folks getting used to it and letting it happen quietly. They lash out so quickly because they know how tenuous their hold is. Don't mistake the boldness of fear for grand strategy.
Reminder: This instability has been their goal all along, to justify cracking down even further

Are we just doing Britney Spears' conservatorship, but for a country?
Chris Wright: "We are just controlling the flow of funds into Venezuela so those funds can be used to better the conditions of the Venezuelan people and reduce the risks to the American people of the giant criminal activity coming out of that country. We're not stealing anyone's oil."

We must reduce the presidency to a formality. The office was a mistake. Massive constitutional reforms must start now.

Netflix: I implore you. Find a good author and release Benoit Blanc novels. I will buy hardcopies of every one. I promise. Is @straczynski.bsky.social available?

Incredibly frustrating conclusion on this article. Academia is going to make the same mistake it did with Wikipedia. This prof couldn't come up with a way to teach his students to use ai because he refuses to use it himself

Photographers / videographers: has anyone talked about the "Maga lighting" trend? Conferences, fern talks, speeches, official portraits -- they all look like the were lit by an open refrigerator door.

What's unique about this particular lie is: not even cognitive dissonance can combat it. Everyone knows it's not true! Everyone buys groceries. Everyone buys stuff from Amazon. We all have to buy stuff just to live, and it's all way more expensive than it was at the beginning of the year
Trump: "If you look at affordability, which they campaigned on, they lied. Because they talked about 'Oh, prices are up' -- no, prices are down under the Trump administration and they're down substantially."

Trump and Musk share a commonality of somehow being both quite clever and extremely dumb which I (and others) have found confusing.

I have a model that has been working.

I think they’re both clever guys with extremely narrow worldviews.

Trump moving around your tax money on his whim as congress sits on its hands. The rest of the country now knows what its like for DC to not have voting representation in congress. Time to bring back its motto nation-wide: no taxation without representation.
