Halloween. Increasing darkness. Lower sun and increasing shadows. Wind storms. Change in plants. #kidlitchat

I think it can even be helpful for settings you know. Nobody has a relationship with light like a photographer does. #kidlitchat

That's where I am. Sadly, most of the orchards are gone. I grew up around apricot orchards and cabbage fields in California, on the edge of SF Bay near salt flats. Lots of scents! #kidlitchat

I've written every day for almost 7 1/2 years, so my habits are pretty set. I write at night so it's darker and I feel more tired this time of year. I also start thinking about my years-long project about creepy winter tales. I love Halloween, but it gets REALLY creepy around Christmas. #kidlitchat

Here in Utah, the patches of color start popping in late August on the mountain that fills the view from my front door, and are dull by now, replaced by white peaks with snow that continually creeps up and down the mountain. But the leaves are starting to change here in the valley now. #kidlitchat

It's the time of year when it's hard to beat an old monster movie in atmospheric black and white, where shadows rule. #kidlitchat

Cool topic. For my first manuscript, which largely took place in Iceland, where I had never been, I contacted a photographer and asked him a bunch of questions about the light. Very helpful! #kidlitchat

It's an increasingly rare thing, a free Tuesday night when I can attend #kidlitchat.

Even after writing for 2,642 straight days and establishing a fairly solid habit, some days it's hard to get started. But I'm not ready to end the streak quite yet, so here goes. #amwriting

Any electricians who come to this great little conference will be shocked. Ha! Get it? #kidlitchat

I think it does take a little arrogance to think we can write something people want to read, and we're better at it than so many of the other people in our same position. And I think there's nothing wrong with that. #kidlitchat

Why does autocorrect like to change "writing" to "wiring," and why do I not notice after a zillion times? #kidlitchat
scottwrites.bsky.social
Disappointed that I have to miss #kidlitchat tonight due to a staff meeting for this week's virtual wiring intensive, which I'm leading. But we have an amazing group of presenters to prepare for. Seats are still available. See wifyr.com for details.

Check out Get A Grip, Vivy Cohen if you haven't--told in email exchanges. #Kidlitchat

Thanks. I've been struggling with a new story idea, then this week I was hit by a newer and better idea, a NIV no less, and the planning notes and character, plot, and setting ideas are coming faster than I can note them. The other idea was kind of fun. I LOVE this new one!

I can't stop. I'm a dad. More than that, I'm a Grandad. Ask my wife what happens when I get on a roll. #kidlitchat

Good NEIGHbors share puns! #kidlitchat
scottwrites.bsky.social
Seeing all of you pony up with your puns does my tired self good. It's pasture time to give me energy, but I enjoy the laughs. #kidlitchat

And I, of course, meant poets, though Claudia and Lance are so good your pets will probably enjoy hearing them too!

I went through a period in my late teens/early twenties when I hated first person. I don't even know why anymore. But if I saw first person, I probably wouldn't read it. Now I write it all the time and love reading it. #kidlitchat

We'll have other speakers of interest to pets and verse novelists too, including verse novelist Claudia Mills, speaking about verse novels, and Utah Poet Laureate Lance Larsen, who's talking about writing poetically even in prose. Both are excellent presenters.

Way late, but I'm able to take a break from working on my upcoming conference event to join part of the #kidlitchat.
