Get me a mayor whose achievements are making DC more equitable, affordable, inclusive, safe, & just. A mayor who can say all public schools improved. A mayor who can demonstrate historic environmental protections & investments. Get me a mayor who we end up calling Governor. #DCStatehood
Muriel Bowser, who helped make DC the vibrant city it is, kept the Capitals and Wizards from leaving, lured back the Commanders, navigated Trump's attacks and offered steady leadership in turbulent times, opts not to run for a fourth term. @campbellnyt.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/11/25/u...
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser Says She Won’t Run for a Fourth Term

Couldn’t agree more that serious times demand a serious leader. Having a mayor that doesn’t understand the gravity of throwing her own people under the bus to submit to a fascist regime - and then pretend she isn’t- is deeply alarming. Time for new leadership.
Some 2026 intrigue: There's a new effort to "draft" Mayor Muriel Bowser to run for a fourth term backed by Opportunity DC, the political group assembled by the Federal City Council/other business interests.

"One more time!" urges the petition on the site:

Democrats in Congress: Hold the line.

Do not back these bills that jeopardize DC’s right to govern itself.

DC is a testing ground for tactics that MAGA will try across the country.

Vote NO, and focus on helping struggling families afford health care.
This week the House is set to vote on two bills targeting D.C.'s criminal justice laws. One would repeal a 2020 city law that imposed new training, discipline, and disclosure standards on police. The other would bring cash bail back to D.C. 30 years after it was eliminated.
We stand united against all 13 anti–DC Home Rule bills in Congress.

DC is home to more than 700,000 residents who pay taxes, run businesses, and serve in the military. Like all Americans, we deserve the right to set our own local laws.

Congress should reject this unprecedented federal overreach.

On the first episode of the new @cuneytdil.bsky.social & @trsdc.bsky.social podcast (which is great)- Sherwood describes @mayorbowser.dc.gov as a "moderate progressive". I think the record shows she's a conservative Dem/ liberal Republican at best (in mold of Manchin/ Bloomberg). Evidence ⬇️

On offense the problem was actually trying TOO hard to get it to AJ. Just do what comes naturally. Need better design but also can't design to his social media posts and ego.

This shows what we've know: @mayorbowser.dc.gov cooperating w/a fascist regime yielding NOTHING. Sipping cocktails, taking directions, smiling w/ white supremacists...MPD still cooperating with ICE. Ntl Guard STILL in DC. Home rule can't be repealed w/o 60 Senators. Time for @janeese4dc.bsky.social!

“When the federal safety net falters, locally rooted community schools are the resilience strategy that keeps children fed, families calm, and students in school where they belong.” Read Ward 7’s @dcsboe.bsky.social rep Eboni-Rose Thompson’s Op-Ed:
Opinion: Now is the time to support D.C.’s community schools
If the federal government cuts funding, local investments we make in community schools and family supports are the buffer that keeps neighborhoods from unraveling, argues Eboni-Rose Thompson.

Can we stop calling rogue fascist agents who tear gas children “immigration enforcement” or “law enforcement”. That’s not what they’re doing and we all know it.
The 2-year-old boy was so frightened, he stuttered.

“Mommy, mommy, mommy,” he repeated, clinging to her.

His mother, Molly Kucich, had been grocery shopping when her husband called, panicking. She heard “immigration raid.” Then: “tear gas.”
Chicago's children are getting caught in the chaos of immigration crackdowns
In Chicago, children and families have been traumatized by an immigration enforcement action involving tear gas.

Federal armed agents should not be enforcing DC's juvenile curfew. That's why I voted against the extension of a juvenile curfew.

I asked if we can be sure that there would be no federal involvement in enforcing the curfew. The answer was No.

We need to protect our young people.

FUN PLACES ARE ONLY FOR ADULTS, says @mayorbowser.dc.gov says! They admit this is a very small amount of youth but bc of it they are banning ALL youth. Imagine if treated adults this way. Imagine if when a fight broke out at an NFL game we banned all adults from NFL games for a while.
NEWS: After disturbances in Navy Yard on Friday night, @mayorbowser.dc.gov is instituting an emergency curfew of 11 p.m. for any kid under the age of 18, from tonight through November 5. She is also empowering the police to designate special zones where the curfew is 6 p.m.

Last night, the National Guard chased children who were out enjoying Halloween in Navy Yard.

There is no valid reason for armed soldiers to terrorize children like this. End Trump’s occupation of DC. National Guard out NOW.

In mid-August, 71% of D.C. residents said local police should not be assisting in federal immigration enforcement, as part of a @washingtonpost.com poll.

"People are feeling gaslit right now," @robertwhitedc.bsky.social says, when the extent to which MPD is cooperating is unclear to the public.
Questions remain about MPD’s work with ICE. Activists want lawmakers to step in
They say the D.C. Council should publicly question MPD about cooperation on immigration enforcement.

She'd be smart not to run-but I hope she does so the city can voice their rejection of her capitulation to Trump and Republican-light politics at the polls. The last year has finally exposed just how out of touch she is with the city she leads. For years, she's skated by... 1/3
New: Mayor Bowser is seriously considering turning down a bid for a fourth term.

She's discussed the prospect with her allies in recent days. Several have described it as a 50-50 chance she runs again. This would be a huge shift for a mayoral race defined by the incumbent:

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser might not run for reelection. That could scramble the 2026 mayoral race
The three-term mayor is discussing the possibility of stepping aside, despite months of speculation she planned to mount a bid for a fourth term.

LFG! Time for new leadership. @janeese4dc.bsky.social
Here's the results: It was conducted by a coalition of labor unions, many of which supported Bowser in '22, and they found very worrying numbers for her.

53% say she's not doing a good job as mayor and she loses 59-40 (!) against a generic challenger.

Democrats always make decisions out of fear and caution. They’re worried about who will be subtracted, so they never ADD! A decision like this could have built the coalition and motivated another critical part of the base.

Today, the UN officially designated Israel’s assault on Gaza as a genocide.

As a party to the Genocide Convention, the U.S. has a legal obligation to obey our own laws, stop weapons sales to Israel, and demand a permanent ceasefire.

End the genocide. Ceasefire now.
