In June, someone much younger in a gas mask was walking next to me for a few minutes and I so badly wanted to give them a reassuring hug as if they were one of my kids. I hope that person comes back this time feeling safer!

Do they? Most of my Indivisible group are aging boomers who would have been at those, and it just doesn't ever come up - they're focused on the terrible things happening now.

Because they have no hobbies! Their whole lives revolve around complaining about stuff someone liberal did or said decades ago! This is very hard for normal people with jobs, families, and hobbies/interests to understand. Liberals don't WANT to obsess about stupid old stuff.

This is all predicated on Trump having near-magical powers with the base, thus allowing the Congressional GOP to relax into irrelevance.

But what happens when he is no longer on the scene? Does Congress remember it used to enjoy power? Or do they never want it back?

Hillary literally used these arguments over and over and over and over. Why do you think women were so enraged in 2017 and 2018? And then came the backlash. With hope, we are in the backlash to the backlash now, but it's been really sobering to see what happened *after* MeToo.

Hillary did a lot of that and it did not work! He was on tape admitting to sexual assault and it did not work. Voters by and large have made it quite clear they don't care. Maybe for other politicians, but not for him.

I have to think that Harris was worried she’d be electorally punished for emphasizing woman stuff, especially since there’s been an enormous MeToo backlash.

She was too cautious in a lot of ways, and should have been out there much more, but I don’t think she would have been rewarded for this.

I can have a stretch of really good days where I feel brave and empowered, and then news like the NC gerrymandering knocks me over and I start thinking all is lost - that they got a head start and we’ll never catch up, no matter how hard we work.

The only thing I cling to is that his ability to skate by may not be transferable. His successors may not be able to get away with what he can. But he has some special magic they don’t, so we just have to wait until he’s gone because he’s untouchable.

It wasn’t, and then even after he got convicted for a crime involving sexual assault, he got reelected.

So forgive me for assuming that the majority of voters are just fine with a crook and a sex pest, because they have now proved it twice.
