hummers humming in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta today, including the endemic Santa Marta Woodstar & Santa Marta Blossomcrown, the latter too quick for our cameras, alas

headed higher tomorrow, with plenty more Santa Marta endemics yet to come.

I'm unlikely to see any more Waxcap species this season but thought I'd post some other interesting CHEGD species. Here's the fabulous Mealy Meadowcap (Pseudotricholoma metapodium). Chunky, pink on bruising and with a beautiful bready smell. Fruits early and is classed as endangered on the red list.

Despite the frost, still plenty of fungi in the shelter of Old Sulehay Forest, where I spent a much needed few hours mooching around silently among mossy dead wood. Favourite finds included a pair of tiny Spring Hazelcups, a duo of Bleeding Bonnet, some magnificent Jelly Ear and a Velvet Shank

A recent late afternoon walk in mown amenity grassland at Ferry Meadows where I was delighted to find my first intensely green Parrot Waxcaps of the year, a waxcap without a single trace of green, lots of Field Blewits and a tiny dull-looking bonnet, maybe Drab Bonnet

yet more wonderful hummers, including those with the longest (Sword-billed Hummingbird) and shortest (Purple-backed Thornbill) bills
