It’s easy to spot the signs if you know what to look for:
- Facial weakness
- Arm weakness
- Slurred speech

Stroke can happen to anyone—even if you’re young—and causes serious life-changing disruption.

The sooner you start taking action to prevent stroke, the better.

#SLCo #PublicHealth #Stroke
It's #WorldStrokeDay. Every year, 12 million people experience a stroke. That’s one every two seconds!

A stroke cuts off the supply of blood and oxygen to the brain. The longer the time gap, the more likely people are to be left with long-term brain damage.
🧟‍♂️ Travel in groups—there’s safety in numbers!
🍫 Check candy before letting kids dig in.

Have a spooktacular (and safe!) Halloween! 🦇✨

#SLCo #PublicHealth #Halloween #SafetyFirst
Before the candy and costumes take over, remember these frightfully good safety tips:

👀 Look both ways before crossing the street.
🔦 Stay visible with flashlights or reflective tape.
🎃 Stick to sidewalks and crosswalks.
Homes built before 1978 could be haunted by lead paint!

Protect your family and community:
✅ Keep homes free from peeling or chipping paint (especially in older buildings)
✅ Run tap water to flush pipes before using
✅ Avoid old or imported ceramics for food or drinks
Lead (Pb) might look like just another element on the periodic table—but it’s highly toxic. Even small amounts can cause serious health problems, especially in children.

There’s no safe level of lead exposure.

⚠️ Early signs include headaches, vomiting, behavior changes, anemia, and kidney issues.
Reducing alcohol use can have powerful benefits — not only for your physical and mental health, but also for your relationships.

When we drink less, we communicate better, handle stress more effectively, and strengthen our emotional connections.

#SLCo #PublicHealth #DrinkLess
No level of lead exposure is safe. Lead can be found in paint used in homes and schools, as well as on painted playgrounds and toys. Join us for #ILPPW2025 to learn the risks about #LeadPoisoning. #BanLeadPaint More info: bit.ly/46OPovm

Follow these tips for safe contacts:
✨ Only buy lenses with a prescription
🧴 Use fresh contact solution—never water or saliva
🙌 Wash your hands before touching your lenses
💤 Remove lenses before sleeping or swimming
♻️ Replace lenses and cases on schedule

#SLCo #PublicHealth #HalloweenSafety
Your eyes deserve treats, not tricks! 👁️

Decorative contacts can look magical—but if they’re not from a licensed eye doctor, they can leave you with more than just a fright.

Did you know it’s #ContactLensAwarenessMonth? 🔮
Don’t let your spooky spread turn into a frightful feast! 👻

🕷️ Keep hot foods hot (140°F or warmer) and cold foods cold (40°F or below).
🧙‍♀️ Refresh or replace snacks that have been sitting out for more than 2 hours.
💀 When in doubt, toss it out!

Some costume makeup, jewelry, and accessories can contain lead or other harmful metals. This Halloween, opt for new, non-toxic, or FDA-approved products, and avoid those with old or unlabeled ingredients.

Let’s make this Halloween all treats 🎃

Take charge of your health:
1️⃣ Schedule your mammogram
2️⃣ Talk with your doctor about any changes you notice
3️⃣ Stay on top of screenings and follow-up care

Together, we can close the survival gap with awareness, action, and care for one another 💗

#SLCo #PublicHealth #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth
Every minute, four women are diagnosed with breast cancer—but early detection can make all the difference.

Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when treatment is most effective.
To Every Survivor: Your voice matters. Your story matters. You are not alone. Together, we can craft safer homes and a safer community 💜

#SLCo #PublicHealth #StopTheHurt
This #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth, we honor the strength of survivors and the power of community. Healing happens when we stand together — when we choose to listen, believe, support, and uplift.
This October, we stand with survivors by saying three powerful words: “I believe you.” Too often, survivors face doubt, shame, or silence when they speak their truth.
Keep your Halloween spooky—not smoky! 🎃

Use flashlights or battery-operated candles instead of real ones to keep decorations (and costumes!) safe from fire.
