US and Western society tends to always selectively define both what is politics and political, and violence itself when it suits the rhetoric and goals of the exercise.

He didn't engage in good-faith debate, he used the pretense of debates to stage rhetoric designed to get his hateful far right rhetoric out to a wider audience, then selectively edited clips from to make himself seem reasonable. He was not and he supported what was done to him in fact!
