Palestine was the test to see what they could do. Not standing in solidarity with Palestinians was not only a major moral and ethical failing it was a strategic mistake that everyone will pay for.

tbh i think “at least do something cool in the death rattle” is a great encapsulation of what being alive in this post-breads & circuses world feels like
Australian commercial TV is dying, at least do something cool in the death rattle.

Israel has massacred another 120 in just the past 24 hours. Most while trying to access aid.

Utterly barbaric.

This is what genocide looks like.
Israeli gunfire, strikes kill 120 Palestinians in Gaza, many at aid sites
Palestinian death toll in Israel’s genocidal war surpasses 55,000 amid ongoing bombardment and killings at aid sites.

Even after today’s increase, award wages are still lower in real terms than they were when Scott Morrison was Prime Minister.
This means ordinary people remain worse off whilst the rich continue to make record-breaking profits from the labour of the working class.

The Flanderization of ghibli in the public mind is just so insane to me. Acting like it’s entirely wholesome and cutesy but is really overtly anti capitalist, depict the horrors of war and environmental decline, and have TONS of body horror and depictions of death and disease. it legit annoys me

Very odd to me the ABC has an entire podcast devoted to foreign affairs, hosted by two of its most prominent staff, that has not done a single episode on Gaza this year. Only reference was on the most recent episode, in the context of Trump visiting Saudi Arabia. www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...

This is pretty much all we get from the media, a constant message of how extreme we are for wanting Australia to stop breaching international law and actually sanction Israel which is carrying out daily massacres and starving kids to death. None of our many other policies are mentioned.
Here's another example. Media is addicted to getting people who hate the Greens to exclusively be their commentators on it. No wonder they can't convince anyone <40 (who, by the way, support the Greens in big numbers!) to read them.

I do not believe any conservative would say this as anything other than political calculation sensing changing winds, but that they're saying it at all is quite a shift. Free Palestine
“I want to say that I got it wrong and I condemn Israel for what it is doing to the Palestinian people in Gaza”

🔵 Conservative MP Mark Pritchard symbolically 'withdraws' his support for Israel over war in Gaza

"Hauntings are good because they evoke grief, and grief’s twin, love. Hauntings require memory and a sense of place. Hauntings require you stay human." The way Sarah describes and talks about grief (and love) in her work always speaks to me and the importance of grief right now.

Avoid using emoji as bullet points in social media posts. An emoji has a coded description that gets read by screen readers, and thus could confuse users who think that's part of the content. If you can't use standard lists, use dashes for bullet points or add line breaks.

I suggest folks start putting "anti-AI statements" in their publications and talks. For example, state that you didn't use AI for any aspect of your work and that you didn't cite any studies that used AI.

This shows worker solidarity and makes visible the collective action against AI.
If this isn't a cautionary warning for academics then I don't know what is.

You are putting yourself one step closer to unemployment each time you use AI to write an email, synthesize literature, code any data, use the socratic method to organize ideas, or write syllabi, lectures & papers.
This week, I spoke with one of the Duolingo contractors impacted by its 'new' AI strategy, and they clarified that

1) it's not new. Duolingo has *already* fired an estimated 100 writers and translators.

2) they worked for months training an AI system that still makes egregious mistakes.

I think about all the sweet pictures I have of my kid between 3 and 5- dressed up or in parks or museums and how many of these kids will only have photos their parents took to help raise funds in front of rubble for these ages in Gaza.

You can’t save the world but you can help these kiddos today ❤️
I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Afnan. Afnan was a private tutor before the war and gave lessons out of her home. Her home has been destroyed and she’s been displaced multiple times with her kids Mofeed, 5 and Malak, 3. Afnan hopes to evacuate with her family ❤️
