Sometimes I'm an akita but you may know me as Raymond the GSD. Former particle physicist (PhD) + salt miner, but now I write software. Using AI for science since '05. I also play guitar, make things, and do nerd stuff. (40, male, straight)-ish. SF Bay area

every time I see another "software ported to to new language with the help of AI", I'm reminded of *A Deepness in the Sky* when they use the closest thing to AI in that universe to do a rewrite of all the software and no one can make sense of it once they lose their "focus" that makes it possible

AI is better at generating hype about what it can do and press for itself than it is at actually doing actual real tasks. We're going to get a lot more shitty software implementations that don't actually work before sanity returns

Cloudflare just published a vibe coded blog post claiming they implemented Matrix on cloudflare workers. They didn't, their post and README is AI generated and the code doesn't do any of the core part...

AI is better at generating hype about what it can do and press for itself than it is at actually doing actual real tasks. We're going to get a lot more shitty software implementations that don't actually work before sanity returns

if anyone is curious, I've been tracking my weight through this whole business of losing the burnout/injury/depression/covid weight
the biggest surprise is I didn't think I'd lost much muscle when dieting but it's hard to see 5 lbs amid the noise of losing over 10x that much fat

2025 was a year of me internalizing "small things add up over time". Usually I procrastinate then crunch on projects until they're done, but can't do that for fitness or getting better at music

Most people come out of furry cons feeling great and I rarely do. I've never felt like I belong at them. I'm not weird enough? Or weird in the wrong ways? I'm always everyone's 3rd tier backup plans so unless I fursuit all the time I never see anyone
