Also a mostly rural country, pretty rare globally (around 58%). And its national language, Malagasy, is more closely related to languages in Indonesia than most languages in Africa!
In a client-facing scenario outlook, we're not calling this the 'end' of the Gaza war -- it's occupation by another means. The Israelis are not showing a willingness to swiftly leave Gaza; instead, they aim to treat it like they do Lebanon, where the war ended last year, but the conflict did not.

An administration official confirms more layoffs are on the way after filings confirmed the departments of the Interior, Homeland Security, Treasury, Education, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, and Health and Human Services were all affected.
Even worse. Doha needs a new diplomatic strategy but is stuck with an unreliable American protector for now.
It's a nice PR boost. But Qatar has been hit twice in the past six months because of American policies. I don't think Doha is thrilled when its reputation is now wrapped up with war.
Open-ended occupation, one rife with violations.
Netanyahu: Israeli forces will remain in Gaza until Hamas disarms

We don't know why RFK Jr. is talking about circumcision and autism. We've never walked a mohel in his shoes
Netanyahu does not really know what he wants from Gaza except a political narrative that helps him win the next election. The one narrative that doesn't help him is the two-state solution; he will wage war on that too.
Both sides benefit from a temporary pause (for different reasons). Neither side wants to go beyond that to stabilizing Gaza into a new type of geopolitical entity.
Idk if this is serious, but Israeli politics and reliance on U.S. military aid is unique; U.S. can't manipulate Russia the same way, and must escalate to force a change in Russian behavior.
German magazine Die ZEIT reports that Assad is using his exile to improve his CoD skills.

He's gotta know about all the Assad song memes by now.
Despite the talks, Israel is still striking targets in Gaza, even as the ground offensive in Gaza City itself has largely paused.

Keep in mind there's a ceasefire in Lebanon that Israel routinely violates too; without some kind of U.S. enforcement mechanism, that could be what Israel does in Gaza
🔴 Gaza’s Government Media Office said Israel has ignored Trump’s ceasefire call, launching 230+ air and artillery strikes from Oct. 4–7 that killed 118 civilians, including women and children.

Most of the strikes hit crowded neighborhoods and displacement camps; 72 were killed in Gaza City alone...
I don't know if this will break the fever dream that Republicans are good at the economy, but it should.
Something else I'm seeing -- the greenshoots of post-MAGA Republican politics. The Mansophere cooling on Trump; MJT bucking the party on Epstein/Gaza, etc.

In January 2026 Trump will enter terminal political decline. The early movers are already beginning the funeral games.
On the Hamas-Israel negotiations, I spoke with Channel News Asia on the legacy of Oct. 7 and what we can expect looking forward.
