Watching people being brutalized by the state, secure in the knowledge that I'm safe because I don't do anything wrong. And the best part? The state can't suddenly and arbitrarily redefine what "wrong" means

Maybe I'm cynical but I don't trust the general public to do stuff like that. There are reasons you're not even technically supposed to fill up reusable water bottles at soda fountains in restaurants.
rustbeltenjoyer.bsky.social
I still don't like it, there's no way to tell if someone just rinsed something or actually washed it with soap and hot water, and even then washed the whole container, not just the inside.

The customer pays a deposit fee that is refunded to them or credited towards the next container when they return it to that or any other business, or to designated drop points where the city can collect and redistribute them to restaurants. Same system as reusable milk bottles but on a larger scale.

I think there's a better way, I think the city should take input and have a few standardized designs (no more than three).

imo having worked in kitchens, requiring businesses to accept reusable takeout containers from customers is a practical and hygienic nightmare.

One of these days I'm going to drag him on the road trip to go visit a few of these sites because our brains work the same.

It's actually so cool, he's got spreadsheets of old canals and researches them and cross references them with old aerial imagery and maps and meticulously adds them to open street map.

writes and edits Wikipedia articles about lighthouses and adds canals to open street map.

What’s ONE green flag about your father?

psst. hey, hey kid. I got the good stuff, ethylene oxide.

Railroad thieves are far too unimaginative these days. Each of those DOT tank cars easily has over $100k of intermediate process chemicals inside. Get up there with your jerrycan and siphon and quit being a little bitch about it.

I know this because we were in a Toronto hotel room with a few others in March sampling coffee at like midnight, and I mused about having pH test strips to compare the acidity of our coffees, and she said "OH!" and nonchalantly pulled that out of a bag.

If anyone reading this post was wondering whether or not she carries these pH test strips with her everywhere, the answer is yes. Yes she does.

Donald Trump has heard the wails and lamentations of all the Rust Belt communities left behind by neoliberalism, and he has a message for them: fuck you and die

It just happens that a lot of the people in those categories are Gen Z. The way to cut through the "Gen Z" stare is to be kind and sincere, and not performatively so. And the way to eliminate it is to pay people more.
rustbeltenjoyer.bsky.social
I've been thinking about the "Gen Z stare" and I don't think it's just generational.

I think the "Gen Z stare" is more of a class issue; one of socially exhausted and financially anxious minimum wage workers fed up with the performative societal skit of toxic positivity.

these are absolutely stunning wtf

I did Cincy last summer, it and the $5 Long Island Iced Teas in the north side neighborhood deserve their own trip imo 😌

We took a meandering path through South City and into Soulard between U-City and Downtown.

I did that with another friend last year and we made a whole day of it, it was honestly pretty incredible. We walked about 40K steps iirc 💀
