Has been for way longer than people think. The Amish split from the Mennonites because when someone broke church rules (Or just annoyed an elder) the Mennonites wanted to ban them from church services, while the Amish wanted to treat them as dead and let them starve or freeze to death.

Also fascism requires they have the emo intelligence of a child or an animal. People they like are people, everyone else is a tool to be used and discarded or a pest to be eliminated. With no concern for where new 'tools' come from or the knock-on effects of removing a 'pest' from the ecosystem

They emulate the powerful people they look up to, so are trying to look older. However, copycatism is a very juvenile action, for someone not ready to be themselves. So they look like children playing at being adults.
