very well done @baptistedarracq.bsky.social , @celineloot.bsky.social and all coauthors
White smoke, we have a new pope and also 16 new anti-phages systems in sedentary integrons (SCIs) !
In collaboration with the Rocha lab, we show in our new paper that cassettes of these large platforms encode many known anti-phage defenses, and uncovered 16 new ones.

Sedentary chromosomal integrons as biobanks of bacterial antiphage defense systems
Integrons are genetic systems that drive bacterial adaptation by acquiring, expressing, and shuffling gene cassettes. While mobile integrons are well known for spreading antibiotic resistance genes, t...

well done Sol 🥳
The biology and ecological impact of #phages in the mammalian gut are poorly understood. This Primer explores a @plosbiology.org study that provides a glimpse into the disruptive biology of the #Hankyphages, parasites of the ubiquitous Bacteroidaceae. 🧪 Primer: plos.io/3RukgtJ Paper: plos.io/41Rr22S

Whaou, well done @ Eligo team
The Eligo team did it again! We just shared on biorxiv the work we did towards the development of a CRISPR-Cas therapy targeting Shiga Toxin producing E. coli (STEC). www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

DUF4297 and HerA form abortosome to mediate bacterial immunity against phage infection
Tang et al. reveal that bacterial DUF4297 and HerA assemble into a supramolecular abortosome to efficiently degrade DNA and elicit abortive infection to mediate anti-phage function. This defense syste...

Very happy to have worked on the PARIS system in Paris in @dbikard.bsky.social lab in the vibrant @pasteur.fr
Whereas most French academic structures "indirectely" implied that I'm "too old" to be hired, David did trust in my expertise and my ability to do good research. 👇

Reposting this here: Two years ago we published the discovery of hotspots of novel anti-phage defense systems in the genome of P4 phage satellites, including a mysterious Phage Anti-Restriction Induced System (PARIS). We have now published the mechanism in @Nature www.nature.com/articles/s41...
A virally encoded tRNA neutralizes the PARIS antiviral defence system - Nature
Structural and functional studies reveal how viral proteins trigger the phage antirestriction induced system (PARIS) to degrade host tRNA and how viral tRNAs suppress the PARIS nuclease and thereby ov...
