This year I decided to dress as the scariest thing I could think of. 🎃

Had a lovely weekend selling books at the Irish Discworld Convention. I even met a few fellow lovers of medieval literature! 📚🧙🏻‍♂️
Selling books at the Discworld Convention in Cork International Hotel today. 🧙🏻‍♂️

Published a short piece in 'The Conversation' about Kash Patel's use of the white-supremacist dog whistle 'see you in Valhalla'. For my uncensored feelings on the subject, please just see the image below.

I think I'll have to put Taylor Swift in my thesis acknowledgements at this stage.
It's become a rite of passage every year when teaching that I am mistaken for a first year.
They think I'm ✨ young ✨ ! #AcademicSky

Up and at em! A wet and early start to my day with a 9am tutorial. Onto the second year of my PhD. 💪🏻 #academicsky #phdsky
I submitted my MA dissertation SIX years ago. 🤯
Just one week left until the deadline for volume 4! Any queries can be passed onto myself and the editorial team via our social media and/or journal email. 👇🏻 #MedievalSky #AcademicSky
CFP REMINDER!

Just a reminder that there is one week left until our deadline for Volume 4 of Apardjón - 1 September 2025. We are especially interested in interdisciplinary approaches within the field of Viking and medieval Scandinavia. Full details are in our CFP. #MedievalSky
Shout out to Hachette for sending me a copy of 'The House of Wolf' by Tony Robinson which will be published in September.
"An earthy, entertaining and gloriously witty recreation of Alfred the Great and the making of England". One happy little bookseller here. 😁 #Booksky
This small medieval church (built circa 1300) in Monkstown became a graveyard in the 1650s, when the first owners of Monkstown Castle died. It's now abandoned but it's a great spot for some peace in the evenings. #SpeirGorm #HistorySky #MedievalSky
Just a reminder of our call for papers for volume 4. We're open access and peer-reviewed! 👇🏻 #MedievalSky #AcademicSky #PhDSky

We are actually cooked as a species if you're using generative ai to "heal childhood trauma"???????
RIP scribes of medieval Arthurian literature. You would have loved Booktok. #medievalsky #booksky
My great granduncle was called the three century man, having lived from 1897-2001. He played in the Cork senior hurling team. My favourite story is him stubbornly navigating the roads of Cork to get to matches, as they were blocked off by Black and Tans.
Anyway, UP CORK.
Shout out to my sister for the photo that sums my holidays up: sunny days and I'm glued to a book.
I have a complete draft of my first chapter! I'm going to have the BEST nap tomorrow. #PhDSky #AcademicSky
Proquest's AI research assistant is currently suggesting old articles from The Sun. Somehow I don't think almost ten year old paparazzi pics are relevant to Old English renditions of Alexander the Great. 🤨

Historians (professional and lay) make a dark age. Very little else does 🤷🏻‍♀️
Question for historians: what makes a Dark Age?
Probably better off! Someone with a good 500K followers was promoting some kind of LLM called character ai. It generates fictional characters that you can talk to? Or something like that. She claimed it cures her reading slump. 🙈 She has since deleted the post in question.
Idk if you've heard about the controversy on booktok this week with a creator doing a paid ad for an ai tool? It's a rabbit hole you need to fall down.
