Hi #portfolioday! 🙌

I’m Rory, a graphic designer and illustrator making analog games that you print at home.

Some flipping and writing in Around the World in 80 Days. Perhaps an obvious statement given the Postmark catalagoue but I like map based writing / drawing games.

Saw some gig posters using Ai and that’s no good. Gig posters are a lot of artists first gig, they’re fucking with the ecosystem of students getting £20 so I’m making stickers because thermal label printers are our cheapest propaganda tool

I wrote a whole book on this, & how games shaped civilization. I am honour-bound to include a link. It's also available in the US as Across the Board.

A great thread from Tim about play and leisure. Play should be a priority. Something that can sit alongside work and other obligations as a serious contender for time spent. I’m very grateful I can lead a lifestyle where that’s partly possible. Sadly not the case for a lot of folks.
Of course I would say this, but we need to talk about the moral & ideological case for play & leisure more than ever. So much political discourse - especially from the super-rich - assumes we ought to construct society around forcing citizens to spend most of their one, unrepeatable life working.

Fun games of Inis and Big Shot yesterday. Two very different takes on area control / majority.

My partner has an open studio on this weekend, and as part of that we put up paintings and ‘dress’ the front room. This is the first year we’ve done it in the winter and I’m enjoying the Christmas vibes (we’re normally pretty sparse with our decorations)

Reskeet with a time you looked cool

Maybe something from when I used to play regularly. This was from my favourite band’s last show many many years ago. Mercifully I’m the one with a shirt on.

Another game of Inis tonight. Feels like victory and defeat are always a pendulum swing away. Really enjoying this one.

Today I investigate three more indie games, all of which are ambitious and explorative of what games can accomplish. These are good'uns. spacebiff.com/2025/11/18/h...
Nebulae, Medusae… Crownae?
Yesterday on BlueSky, Marceline Leiman asked a great question. Using only one or two extremely vague words, how would I describe the titles on offer at this year’s Indie Games Night Market? N…

I just backed this. Love the look of it, and Mike is a known quantity for making cool stuff.
#Crownfell is an asymmetric, abstract, 2-player strategy card game that is live on @thegamecrafter.bsky.social!

No stretch goals, except for this: The more people get it, the lower the price goes *for everyone*.

Add-ons include a playmat & solo expansion.

It’s been a blast working on this. The flooding mechanism makes this dungeon one of the most fun to navigate, and the new characters have very varied playstyles.
🚨New Map Alert!🚨

Escape from the Sunken Cathedral in this brand new map for 52 Realms: Adventures! Race to gear up and face the drowned priest as the rooms flood around you and the enemies become stronger. Available to download now!

First full day off in ages. I put up some shelves, bought some fresh bread, and played a bunch of Anno 117. Pretty good.

A great write up from George. I love Battle for Rokugan and I’m sad I can’t recommend it to more folks (it’s super out of print). Hopefully a new version comes one day and I can freely spread the love once more.
Fingers crossed. A new board would be great - the readability feels a bit dated compared to games now.

Played it recently and was reminded how much I enjoyed it. The bluff token in particular is one of my favourite elements of the game.

Best Bits – Battle for Rokugan: Bluff, Bluster and Bushido
In a game filled with gorgeous watercolour illustration and cards that cause seismic shifts in the board-state, how did the best bit turn out to be a small blank token?

I’m really surprised by how much I’m enjoying the theme of the Fellowship of the Ring Trick Taking game. No LoTR board game has made me want to engage with the source material more. No small feat for a trick taker.
