I figured I'd give this place a try! Some of you might remember me from the other place(s) from some of my pencil portraits! Say hi!
ronfisherartist.bsky.social
Thats true. I used to have a couple of projects on the go at once for variation. Dont have the time now though

The Idris Elba portrait is on hold for a while as i have managed to get that rarest of things (for me at least), a commission!

Back to my roots in a way as one of the first larger drawings i ever did was of a road bike.

There is so much more to draw when they are still! 😂

Haha shhh 😉. Nope definitely all matte pencil (first time for that particular brand) except one bit i used regular graphite for which still annoys me 😂

Thank you!

Commissioned piece. A version of ‘Grendel’ with a huge crustacean clawed arm in place of one he lost a time before. Over his shoulder a huge sword. His black eyes bulge, jaws wide. 2-4B graphite on 110gsm paper. Edited in ‘Photopea’ Personal piece. A human head, portrait. Zombified and engulfed by a fungal infection (thing ‘The last of us). Nothing much is left of the person he once was. 2-4B graphite on 110gsm paper. Edited in ‘Photopea’ Personal piece, a T-Rex hunkered down releasing a mighty roar. Full figure illustration. 2-4B graphite on 110gsm paper Personal piece. An ancient Dragon. Huge, twisty and very long. His body swirls around itself. He places one claw on the ground for stability.

"But look at my little arms! I can't press the fire button and jump at the same time!"

One year ago today I posted this miniature Toy Story photo I created using real figures, lighting and miniature sets...

Rex explains to Buzz that his arms can't reach both buttons of the computer joypad at the same time.

It serves as a kind of watermark and also a "this is the stuff i've used to draw it"
ronfisherartist.bsky.social
Hahaha! I had yo look twice just then! Thank you!
ronfisherartist.bsky.social
Thank you! In the flesh you see a lot more of the pencil strokes, the camera helps to smooth it out. But i try to make it look as close as possible to the reference if i can
ronfisherartist.bsky.social
If youre looking at doing portraits i highly recommend using a grid over a reference image (in fact that works for anything) its what i was taught by my brother and still do.

It helps get stuff in the right place and if it looks odd you can measure it.

I use a lighter colour (white, different grades of grey, ivory, cream) as a base unless i need a pure version of the colour then i start with that on a test page to see what happens when they mix.

Its hard to explain in text but hope this helps a little!
