1/ 📢 @cosmik.network has been awarded $1M in grant funding by Open Philanthropy and @asterainstitute.bsky.social These generous grants will support our development of Semble - a social "micro-knowledge" network for researchers on Bluesky/ATProto. Think Are.na + Goodreads for research!

Nature Sci Rep publishes incoherent AI slop. eLife publishes a paper which the reviewers didn't agree with, making all the comments and responses public with thoughtful commentary. One of these journals got delisted by Web of Science for quality concerns from not doing peer review. Guess which one?

One could write a similar piece substituting “source” with “access”…
"Open Software as a positive force in the world is entirely contingent on its ability to distribute power. To date it has facilitated the opposite."
This piece from @erlend.sh is such a banger! V excited for next week's @scenius.bsky.social open source panel with him 🔥

Had to see for myself. Shared by @smutclyde.bsky.social, published in Nature Scientific Reports (like PLOS One, peer-reviewed [!] for soundness, not importance). The article is about AI-based autism diagnosis. Article processing charge: $2690. AI slop science: priceless

It would be so cool if @subvert.fm combined with some of the music streaming / scrobbling apps here on ATProto ( @teal.fm @rocksky.app etc). User owned company (Subvert) + user owned data (ATProto) is such a potent mix

The 2026 #ATmosphereConf is aiming to be about 2x this year.

If we hit 350-500, then year after 2027 will be roughly double and we need to start planning a year ahead to secure venues.

And! Start planning your 2026 regional confs too!

We’re growing and need to plan for it!

New: *Looseleaf* publishing — a way to publish standalone Leaflets on AT Protocol! 📝🍃

We started with publications on atproto; now we're bringing it all together so _anything_ you write on Leaflet, incl single documents / posts, can be 'atprotated' :)

Who are the @leaflet.pub power users on the reader side? I have a pretty good sense who's *publishing* a ton but I'd love to hear more from readers! if you're following lots of pubs, using our feeds, quoting & commenting & excited for other social features…what would improve Leaflet most for you?

Reich understands the problem. His call to action is limited to just “fund independent news media”. While a good cta, what if we got major politicians excited about the open social web? We are working on the same problems he raises. People like Robert could get us the buy in and support we need rn.
