1/ 📢 @cosmik.network has been awarded $1M in grant funding by Open Philanthropy and @asterainstitute.bsky.social These generous grants will support our development of Semble - a social "micro-knowledge" network for researchers on Bluesky/ATProto. Think Are.na + Goodreads for research!

V interesting twist on MCP! “user data is often fragmented across services and locked into specific providers, reinforcing user lock-in” - enter Human Context Protocol (HCP): “user-owned repositories of preferences designed for active, reflective control and consent-based sharing.” 1/

How it started:
"Our goal is to advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return." (Introducing OpenAI blog post, 2015)

How it's going:

it's all research lol
tbh I like how arena calls it - "a mindful space where you can work through any project over time. It's a place to structure your ideas and build new forms of knowledge together."

We discuss this a lot @cosmik.network + @bmann.ca , an important one feels like bsky independent IDs - from convos with scientists on Twitter I get the sense that they like the decentralized/open social ideas but bsky has a specific political connotation that keeps them away

atmospheric attractor acceleration assembly:

if you could spend time and/or $ in new ways to accelerate migration from twitter to bluesky (+ github to tangled, substack to leaflet, etc!) what would you try?

experiments, incentives, rhetorical strategies? drop your wildest ideas; let's try em!

yep and I think we'll start seeing lots more examples in the ATProto ecosystem

Being a Twitter alternative is a structural trap. You inherit the same moderation nightmares. Academic platforms (arXiv-style) could be your killer app—self-selecting communities, existing norms, reputation economy. Prove the protocol works, then expand. Stop fighting Twitter's war.

And also building new ATProto science tools and services that Twitter won't be able to provide with in the first place.

Feels like playing the longer game, "bazaar" wins out longer term vs "cathedral"

This is cool! Curious, how do are you detecting them?

IMO ATProto will really succeed if it can unlock a new coopetitive landscape

Working on this @cosmik.network - semble.so ! Would be fun to chat and compare notes, we've been focused more on the research use cases but are interested in broader applications too
Semble | A social knowledge network for researchers
Follow your peers' research trails. Surface and discover new connections. Built on ATProto so you own your data.

I can't even explain why I like @leaflet.pub so much but I really do, and now it's open source (on an open source open sourcing tool) and man that is cool
@leaflet.pub/leaflet

also interesting re collective bargaining @nickmvincent.bsky.social

Bluesky/ATProto could be a great way to implement this and to address the ecosystem adoption challenge (esp once they support private data on PDSes @bmann.ca ) 2/
