Bo Bichette joining the long lineage of former Blue Jays who were also Mets including Carlos Delgado, John Olerud, Tony Fernandez, David Cone & many others.

Bummer Jays didn't bring him back, but that home run in Game 7 of the World Series was about as close to a swan song as a guy could ask for.
BREAKING: The New York Mets reached an agreement with Bo Bichette on a three-year deal worth $126 million on Friday, league sources told The Athletic.

If an AI system cannot show who authorized a decision, it should not be making it. Wrote about judgment routing, signing authority, and why invisible discretion is dangerous:

$50 million per year for Kyle Tucker was goofy. $60 million? I mean, whatever, the world is going to hell anyways.

In less technical news, looking forward to reporting back from my first watch of Starfleet Academy aka Star Trek CW

For the past year, I've been quietly doing all sorts of experimenting with different form factors of AI decision legibility. Like all infrastructure-type things, it's just not that interesting when there's so much hype surrounding what's happening.

I kind of hate that the whole "Card" design craze from years ago (thanks Google) spawned a whole design pattern for making big giant clickable blocks of content and over-engineering methods for having "nested" clickable things.

One thing this piece gets right: the talent at 18F was unreal.

In my 4 years as Head of Design, I can count on one hand the number of times a candidate didn’t accept an offer. We were recruiting from the best places in the country, people wanted to do important work.

We also graduated leaders.

i think we're making big mistakes trying to do post-hoc transparency of model decisions.

“Showing the work” can’t compensate for unclear delegation of judgment.

One Point Slam was more interesting than US Open Mixed Doubles. What a fun concept, especially with how many people think they can get a point off a pro. #ausopen #tennisky

Back to the Future 4 is Marty going back in time to stuff Biff from becoming a podcaster, because he parlays it into a Cabinet job.

i did not realize that 1) mrs. potter's lullaby is on this desert life because tbh I kind of gave up on Counting Crows after the first two records (it was me, not them) and so I just always assumed it was on the 2nd album. 2) It's over EIGHT MINUTES LONG

Buio from Meo Fusciuni is surprisingly good. When I put it on, my reaction was "wow what a grown up scent"

I travel intentionally with samples & a few staples so it forces me to try all those samples.

Probably better for night, but I like it as a daytime scent stealer.

Picked up a Japanese black tea the other day (Benifuki) and it's a really nice almost vegetal black tea, the mouthfeel isn't really like many other black teas and as someone who likes a bolder (usually malty) tea it's got enough body that I enjoy it

Baseball and hockey are the only US sports with enough lower divisions (outside of soccer) to pull off a FA Cup style event but the incentives for big league clubs would be nil. Macclesfield upset made me think about it again

KCRW DJ playing Ben Folds Five "selfless cold & composed" was a surprise. Forgot how good that album is.

Playoff rematches against a conference opponent before the finals kind of annoy me. On one hand, it can be helpful to know all their tendencies, postseason time is full of unknowns to begin with.

But if they've had your number, it can be kind of a brick wall. #cfb
