Rosalind Franklin had a lot to do with white dude Watsons and his success. Cannot give a women credit now can we.

I’m not saying that being a white Chicagoan causes bigotry — those are my own roots and I am not a bigot. But when I learned in his obit that Watson was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, it started to make more sense.

That said, he still did a great thing. And it indeed went to his head.
In case anyone is wondering if Watson was really THAT bad, @lpachter.bsky.social compiled a list of quotes that are absolutely not for the faint of heart.

Will be VERY interesting how the current administration responds to this news. My guess is silence, but they are also unhinged so who knows.

Some interesting, bug-related translinguistic discoveries today 🇨🇻 🇪🇸 🇵🇹

In Spanish and both main dialects of Portuguese, “dragonfly” is LIBÉLULA. The term I learned in Cabo Verde (Kriolu) is CAVALO-DE-FEITICEIRA (“witch’s horse” 😮).

In Kriolu, “praying mantis” is SAÚDE (literally “health”)…

Oh good that should settle it then
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Tuesday he had discussed the limits of the U.S. Constitution with President Donald Trump, and that there was not enough time to amend the founding document to allow the Republican a third White House term.

My book’s LOC call number. Having this made the whole publication process feel truly final last year.

Incidentally, “GR” seems appropriate for a book about dragons 🐉

According to legend, the emo-punk trio I drummed for circa 1997, Sixty Second Skill, won “Worst to Ever Perform Here” at Voodoo Jive Records in Bannockburn, IL.

I literally did not know any of our songs. Just general beats the bassist/simger would cue me on.

I think about this sometimes. 🥁 🖤

😢 RIP to a legend.
D’Angelo, the neo-soul trailblazer and modern visionary whose three albums were all heralded as classic works of art, has died at age 51.

Gonna miss the #WTFPod. But I know @marcmaron.bsky.social himself isn’t going anywhere. He’s a man fueled by productive anxiety, nosy yet respectful curiosity, and ancestral oddness that cannot be destroyed by conventional weapons. In other words, a true kindred spirit, and why I love him.

Brown University apparently needs input before (possibly) showing the spine that MIT did in not kowtowing to Trump.

Please let them know your thoughts and share this widely. Especially alum, students, staff, and faculty.

Okay. It’s true that I have a master’s in Portuguese and Brazilian studies. But at no point during my degree program did it come up that there is still a distinct Germanic language spoken in southern Brazil called Hunsrik. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunsrik... 🇩🇪 🇧🇷

Georgians can now get updated Covid shots at pharmacies without a prescription
Georgians should now be able to get the updated Covid vaccines at pharmacies without a prescription after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the latest federal guidelines. The same goes for access at county health departments, the state Department of Public Health said in a Tuesday press release. In line with federal guidance announced Monday, “health department nurses or other providers will counsel patients on the risk-benefit of the vaccine based not only on age but other health conditions or considerations an individual may have,” DPH said. Disruptions to the usual process for recommending who should receive the vaccines caused weeks of…
