I heard someone give a talk, though, where they argued for redefining the classifications of basic and translational research. The idea being to reflect that everything is inherently valuable to the bigger questions. Classically basic is just upstream in the pipeline.

As someone still in academia, it is quite rough, and often very difficult to see the forest for the trees. with such little security, I think people can easily lose those perspectives and focus on why their niche matters
