Checking Your Docs with Claude
I did a short stint at a startup over the last month and one of the things they asked me to do was verify the steps on one of their quick start pages. Super exciting stuff 🙄 but that's exactly the kin...

Wow Spotify. Thanks for the daylist?

What I'm really after with this project is dredging up "crap code". 99% of this was created by my direction, and I've reviewed and found it to be pretty solid. That said - if you dislike AI in general - now's your chance to skewer me (/cc @fransbouma.com... it's data access... right up your alley!)
I goofed off with Claude Code this weekend to see how hard it would be to turn SQLite into a document database with a MongoDB API. It took 3 tries but I think something fun came of it - throw daggers at it if you like: github.com/robconery/gadz
GitHub - robconery/gadz: A MongoDB API for SQLite, turning SQLite into an embedded MongoDB. Sort of.

I don't normally write posts like this, but I truly believe it:

Online Courses are Toast
It'll take a few years, but it's going to happen: interactive learning with AI is here, and it's going to replace horrible, boring video courses (and the good ones too).

Need help prompting? I made a fun thing with @aaronw.dev
that works like "gi" for gitignore, but with prompts. Need a react component and don't know the prompt? Try "peep react-component" in your CLI:

Looks like that’s the extent of it. Small surges out with now waves, small surges in with slightly more wave activity. Thankfully looks like it’s not getting bigger.guess I’ll sign off…

Water is pulling off the reef. Waves have stopped. First wave is here

So far so good. Nothing happening aside from a few clowns walking the beach

So here’s what things look like now. We’ll see if anything changes in 9 minutes

I remember studying this at university for my geology degree. Professor explained it was pulse energy - a pressure differential made the force horizontal. Typical wave energy is sinusoidal, which is changes in vertical energy. At least I think that's what they said... I might have been asleep...
They move. At the speed. Of a commercial airliner. 😳✈️🌊
A rule of thumb for tsunamis is that in open ocean, they move at similar speeds to commercial airliners. If you're ever curious how long it would take for a tsunami to get from one place to another, look up the duration of a similar-length flight.

It'll be an interesting sunset tonight here in Honolulu, with light winds, some high clouds and a tsunami. I live in a big building with a small view of the coast and the first wave is supposed to hit here in just over 2 hours. I'll post pictures.

It's super inefficient (and expensive) to have an LLM work on your data and files (CSV, markdown, whatever) directly. Have it create a script for you instead. I made a video about "compiling" markdown to one of @adamwathan.com's new Tailwind templates this way:

I think this is the most real talk I've ever seen. Damn you @scott.hanselman.com! Absolutely brilliant and touching.

"They sold the van..."

So good.
I just wanted to say, I’m probably more proud of this Ted talk than just about anything I’ve ever done so I’m gonna be absolutely useless for the next couple of weeks as I promote the shit out of this because I want you to watch it because it matters in the moment we are in youtu.be/dVG8W-0p6vg

Your last non-coding prompt to ChatGPT (or your AI of choice). No cheating! I'll go first:

"create a diet and exercise plan so I can be in shape like Brad Pitt. Make it hurt"

OK so I know becoming a fanboy because of a movie is silly but as I watched F1 I remembered that, as a kid, I LOVED racing. This movie reminded me of that. So, Formula 1 fans, how does one get started watching? @damianedwards.com @anthonypjshaw.bsky.social.
July 16, 2025 at 6:42 PM
Holy crap I just saw F1 at a real theater (good one too) and now I want to go out and buy a van and live in it and work out every day and do what I want and race fast cars... what a movie. One of the best I've seen in a while in terms of pure entertainment.

So, these are the financials of a company that lays off 9000 people in just this quarter. Despicable. #microsoft #layoffs

Revenue:$70.1b. Increased 13%

Operating income $32.0b. Increase 16%

Net income $25.8 b. Increase 18%
