Tekoäly ei taida olla ihan poissa kartalta, kun arvioi että professori tekee töitä 2000-3000 h vuodessa...

Tässä toki oli USA-referenssit käytössä, eikä tilanne Suomessa ehkä aivan tällainen. Mutta 1612 h kokonaistyöaika on utopiaa täälläkin.

Tänään luonnostelin budjettia mun akatemiatutkijasuunnitelmaan.

Suomen Akatemian myöntämä rahoitus neljälle vuodelle on enintään 700 000 €. SA rahoittaa 70 % hankkeen kokonaiskustannuksista, eli tutkimuslaitos kattaa 30 % (max 300 000 €).

Another note about #ScientificPublishing. Why does a paper that is published now, appear in a February 2026 issue? Is this also a way to skew some statistics - citation statistics, maybe? Impact factor? Because citations coming in X years after the publication year are calculated, 2026 is better?

Second example, which just came.

A journal communicated: “If we do not receive your response within four weeks (due date: Oct XX 2025 11:59:59:000PM), we will consider the manuscript withdrawn.” (Actually, we got three weeks!?!)

The statistics get skewed when revisions are sent as new manuscript.

In one example this year, we had to indeed withdraw the manuscript and submit as new, because referee comments (round 2) came in the summer, and it was impossible to respond in three or three +1 weeks, because people were on vacation at different times. Revision 2 thus submitted as "new manuscript".

A note about #ScientificPublishing.

Journals compete with their time of processing the work from submission to publication. I think this also skews the system. Journals would rather have a manuscript withdrawn and resubmitted, to not show the full time of processing, but a fast one. Examples come.

New #ALDep simulation article, collaboration with Vuorinen group ENG. With CFD, we showed that temperature effects can be very important. For thin-wall condition, exothermic adsorption steps can lead to local temperature rise of even hundreds of degrees.

Apparently, a problem came about on Thu (yesterday), and the autohgenerated captions have been disabled. I had my lecture on that unfortunate day, when these captions were automatically pushed.

Solution - thanks to help I got in Aalto Marsio - from settings related to the Panopto video, choose captions, and delete the Finnish captions.

Huh! Now I can share the video with students.
