Volunteer in Fish Creek and other conservation orgs because I love nature.

I did not know about them being called an ouzel, but apparently I am the minority in our house. We do love finding g dippers in the streams of the Canadian Rockies
#Bird of the Day: American Dipper (AMDI)
How it pains me to type the name of this bird! Although I'm generally in support of proposed ornithological name changes, I can't make my peace with this one. It used to be called Water Ouzel, an appellation both charming & historical. Ouzel was, until the

@americanfietser.bsky.social it isn't everyday cycling, but a special trip. I had to go to a shop near downtown, ended up wandering a retail street and filled my panniers. 29km round trip. Stopped to pick up beer on the way home... glad I had my straps or I would have not been able to.
I too ventured out of my normal and headed to 17th via reservoir and Elbow paths and was also surprised. It seems all the Parks pathway crews have decided to leave 3-4 cm base of snow? Which means they were soft but not quite terrible. Residential blue sign routes were horrible.

How beautiful

Little forest portal, please deliver me to a place where life is slower & less fraught with yearning.Where people are kind with little effort & every human being matters. Please refuse evil to enter this peaceful place, we will manage exceedingly well without it.

No one should be under any illusions about who the base of the UCP are.

Separatists and far-right radicals have been given care and feeding by UCP Premiers since 2019. One got thrown overboard because it wasn’t enough. Catering hasn’t mollified them either.

I do love winter scenery. Cycling to pick up my car from the mechanic today and view this halo almost the entire way. It briefly created a sundog so I had to stop and capture it

Found a phone in the snow on my bike to yoga.

This is my PSA to tell you that you should put some kind of contact info on your lock screen and setup an emergency contact so that it is possible to contact you or somebody you trust to get your phone back.

I am curious by the drop in the # of non-injury collisions. When did the threshold for reporting non injury accidents to police change to $5000? Is that what's happening?

The last leaf on the tree. What do you see? Is it strength to hold on so long? Persistence? Stubbornness? Confidence to not follow the masses? Or is it just afraid to let go?

I know this is over a month old, but I just found out about this and it is cool
I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Hey #yycbike, anybody else noticed the new pathway on the north side of 90 Ave SW from 24 St to Glenmore Landing?
It'll be a great way to avoid pathway congestion in that area during busy weekends, and is flatter / more direct compared to the path thru the park.

Amazing recovery.
Grateful to spend two days on the Klamath watching chinook, liberated by dam removal, return to streams from which they’d been precluded since the Titanic sank. Fish are everywhere, in numbers that stagger the mind & locations that biologists figured would take years to repopulate. Too beautiful.

When is the General Strike?
TODAY, UCP government denied the Chief Electoral Officer a supplemental budget required to prepare a referendum on Alberta’s separation from Canada.

Is #ForeverCanadian safe to presume that this is an indication that no such referendum will take place?

Does a body know info on muskrat migration / dispersal? I saw a muskrat in this storm pond and I cant figure how it got there considering the kms of houses and 4 lane roads to the nearest natural area.
