In-person consultations with a medical professional also allow any health risks to be assessed, as well as the risk of coercion. This law change is overdue & has wide public support: two-thirds of women want in-person appointments reinstated; only 4% support the status quo. 6/
Philippa Stroud’s amendment would safeguard women & protect viable babies by restoring in-person appointments with a medical professional before abortion pills can be prescribed. This would allow an accurate gestational age check, ensuring a woman is within the legal limit. 5/
Clause 191 would render the abortion time limit redundant for women who can obtain pills without a reliable gestational age check & also mean women would be able to perform abortions for sex-selective reasons with no legal deterrent. 91% of women oppose sex-selective abortion. 4/
The public does not support Clause 191; only 16% support removing offences that make it illegal for women to perform their abortions to full-term & only 1% of women support abortion up to birth. It was ranked bottom of 20 possible priorities for voters in a poll in June. 3/
Rosa Monckton’s amendment would repeal Clause 191, the extreme clause tabled by Tonia Antoniazzi MP in June, which would make it legal for women to perform their own abortions for any reason & at any point right up to and during birth. 2/
🚨BIG NEWS! Baroness Monckton & Baroness Stroud have tabled amendments to the Crime & Policing Bill that would remove the ‘abortion up to birth’ clause from the Bill & reinstate in-person consultations before women are able to obtain abortion pills. 🧵1/

Kim Leadbeater seems to believe suicide is ok for some but not for others.

She's right about one thing: we must support suicide prevention. This means rejecting her assisted suicide Bill that would normalise suicide & suggests some lives aren't worth living. No to all suicide!
