The fall of his team; Swap had gone back to his AU, refusing to fight a loosing war and risk never seeing his family again. Ink had abandoned Dream before Swap even quit. Leaving the guardian completely alone in a Multiverse that had become addicted to hate, and negative energys surrounding Nightmare.

Dream had spent a long time accepting that His brother is gone, and that all was left was a toxic deity who had far to much control over the minds of thousands.

Dreams soul goal is to find a way to restore balance to the multiverse, Creators and Characters alike need to remember the value of both sides, before they fall into an idealization of destruction and tarnish.

This is no easy task for the guardian. He realizes quickly that he needed help, the job couldn't be done alone.. But the Creators Ink was so fond over, so much so to leave him, have forgotten about Dream..

Perhaps with a little luck, he can spark their hopes in him again, and be gifted the strangth needed to stand up to what a monster Nightmare has become.

In my cannon universe Dream is over 500 years old. With how long the multiverse has been under the control of negativity, its rendered him weaker by the day. So he'd gone into hiding in a passive AU for some time to regain his strength.
