Happy Halloween! 👻 We hope you have a delightfully scary weekend, and we'll be back next week as usual. We've dug out a classic #FromTheArchive for you: a Rifleman from KRRC (1936/7) with a seasonally appropriate friend.
Our lovely leather wallets - Rifles & RGJ - are now back in stock! They come in a metal tin and feature a cap badge in white on the front. Inside is a pocket for coins, 5 card holder slides and 2 compartments for notes.

You can order them from our online shop: https://shop.rgjmuseum.co.uk/index.asp
Our newest member of staff is this adorable little pumpkin Rifleman! You can make your own to take home with you this week when you visit the Museum.

This week's image #FromTheArchive shows exactly how we've felt a few times this week with all the rain! Lt Paul Luckhurst enjoys 'ablutions' on return from patrol, Crossmaglen c.1977.

We hope your weekend is a little drier!

This is one of the four hooves of ‘Coal Box’, a German pony befriended by bandsmen of the 2nd Battalion, The King’s Royal Rifle Corps (2KRRC), during WWI. After Coal Box’s death, the hoof was plated and kept as a memento, and later donated to the Museum.

Today's photo #FromTheArchive is of "B" Coy London Rifle Brigade at Rushmore Camp, 1929.

Raised in 1859 as a volunteer unit, the LRB was at various times connected with KRRC, The Rifle Brigade, and The Royal Green Jackets. Its lineage continues today as part of the 7th Battalion, The Rifles.
This beautifully preserved scarlet coatee dating from before 1820 belonged to Lt-Col John Hunt of the 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot, Light Infantry.

How would it feel if all your sons and daughters were caught up in war? What would it be like to spend six years fearing what a telegram might bring?
This week's photo #FromTheArchive shows a very photogenic A Coy, 1RGJ in Cyprus in 1976. We don't have any names recorded for this photo - anyone spot any faces you recognise?

Have a great weekend!

This week's impressive photo #FromTheArchive is of a 3RGJ tank parade with accompanying helicopter in Celle, Germany in 1968. We hope you're all rolling into the weekend with this much confidence!
A surgeon. A nurse. A prisoner of war. A soldier in Italy. A soldier in Burma. A young woman chasing love in London. Annabel Venning's evening talk, 'BLITZ, BATTLES, CAPTURE, SURVIVAL' follows the stories of six siblings, her relatives, throughout World War II.
The motto Celer et Audax, “Swift and Bold”, was conferred on the 60th Royal American Regiment by General James Wolfe in recognition of its bravery during the siege of Quebec in 1759. This memorandum from 1824 notes that the Regiment has formally requested to be allowed to resume the motto.
Good morning! We're open as usual Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm (last entry 3.30pm). We look forward to seeing you!
They remained until early January 1964, and as they had been "living fairly rough...most of them were not sorry to return to Colchester (and their wives and families)"!
