DESTROYING ANGEL (1982)

All of the concepts I submitted for the 1982 Year’s Best Horror Stories cover were strong. If I had tried to guess which one would be chosen, the concept that became this painting would have been my last guess. 1/5

In a field of poppies, a skeletal figure wearing a black and red silk cloak holds a smiling mask set on the end of a thin staff. Sweeping the cloak aside in a welcoming gesture, it reveals an antique key hanging from a ring about its emaciated forearm. The other arm is tied off with rubber tubing. Pronounced veins run the length of necrotic flesh. Beneath the cloak, chains wraps the torso, criss-crossing, secured by a padlock. The green tunic beneath is torn to expose yellowing rib bones. Atop its tilted skull rests a crown of mushrooms and a single bird wing. Its orbitals are dead black, and many teeth are missing. A syringe dangles from a loose chain around its neck. Another needle hangs from its belt with longer cord weighed down by a spoon. A long opium pipe with a bulbous end is tucked through the belt. A winding tree rises behind the angel of death, bare limbs branching like veins, blue against the purple haze of the misty backdrop.

Thank you, that really means a lot to me! I like being around you and the other bsky friends I've made. The vibe here has just become so harsh outside of our small circles. I get the ick every time I spend time looking around anymore.

Not sure how long I am for bsky, tbh.

There's a gross habit of bsky staff using mod tools for personal reasons
and this habit goes all the way to the top.

We're forced to have Jesse Singal but we can't have Link? Completely disheartened.
Bsky doesn't want community. They just want numbers.

He doubled down on using the 'r' slur several years ago and that put me off him forever.
Then he jumped into the game I was playing (ffixv) and community in that game seemed to change overnight.

He threw a couple tantrums, stopped streaming for a bit, and I guess pivoted hard right ...

Over-stimulated so much that I just realized I'm sitting here shirtless. Tore that shit off some time ago, didn't even notice. I just remember the feeling of relief. (Not even a rough shirt. A nice, worn it, white cotton v-neck. Fibro is just bad lately.)

Get into all the fancy syrups, like walnut. (Walnut syrup is amazing. Hoping some day to find black walnut syrup, bc dreams can come true.)
