I like to read, watch movies and document my life in colourful Excel spreadsheets. 1970s British horror is my happy place. Gigantic Japanese monsters also welcome.

Mario Argentober Night 29 : Do You Like Hitchcock? A young film student investigates a murder in the apartment opposite his house. #tonightsmovie #goodmovies #darioargento #italiancinema #thriller #hitchcock
Mario Argentober Night 28 - Danger: Diabolik. Great pop-art comic-book crime caper with lots of enjoyably 60s moments. #italiancinema #mariobava #johnphilliplaw #marisamell #adolfoceli #terrythomas #diabolik
Mario Argentober Night 24 : Shock. Mario Bava's final film is a chilling little ghost tale with a very creepy child. Daria Nicolodi is excellent again. #tonightsmovie #mariobava #italianhorror #italiancinema #darianicolodi #johnsteiner #ivanrassimov
Mario Argentober Night 23 : Profondo Rosso. A superior giallo with Argento firing on all cylinders and Goblin's music delighting and surprising throughout. #greatmovies #horror #horrormovies #horrorfam #italiancinema #italianhorror #darioargento #goblin #darianicolodi #davidhemmings
Mario Argentober Night 22 : Baron Blood. Lacking Bava's usual visual flair and crushingly slow, Baron Blood still has some amazing location work at Burg Kreuzenstein, Austria. Joseph Cotten is channeling Vincent Price throughout. #tonightsmovie #mariobava #elkesommer #josephcotten
I had this whole set as a kid but it mysteriously disappeared. I have since replaced it, thanks to the magic of eBay. Some of those pictures used to scare the crap of the out of me.
Mario Argentober Night Twenty-one : Mother of Tears. A confused mess that could have been better with more money spent on it and anyone else in the lead role. There are some surprisingly interesting nuggets in there but the SOV look is a stumbling block and the final scene looks like Knightmare.
Tonight's movie is Lucio Fulci's Demonia. Starts off OK but rapidly deteriorates. To its credit there are some hilariously bad gore effects near the end, especially a man randomly being torn in half. Late-stage Fulci is often disappointing. #luciofulci #italianhorror #italiancinema #horror
Mario Argentober Night Twenty : Black Sabbath. Mario Bava's excellent portmanteau horror with Boris Karloff linking the stories and appearing in the longest one. #tonightsviewing #mariobava #italianhorror #italiancinema #giallo #portmanteau #boriskarloff
I've always rather wanted the fake beard given away at screenings of Rasputin!
Mario Argentober Night Eighteen : A Bava double bill of The Road to Fort Alamo and Black Sunday. Lovely Sunday afternoon Western and groundbreaking Italian gothic classic. #tonightsviewing #tonightsmovie #greatmovies #italianhorror #mariobava #barbarasteele #italiangothic #spaghettiwestern
That's very understandable, you'll always have that unfortunate association with the movie. It's similar to why I find Blackstar a hard listen. Much like people say of the Kennedy assassination, I'll always remember where I was when I learned of Christopher Lee's passing.
Mario Argentober Night Sixteen : The Whip and the Body. Christopher Lee is a sadistic ghost haunting his demented ex in this beautiful but desperately slow gothic horror. #tonightsmovie #italiancinema #mariobava #christopherlee #daliahlavi
Mario Argentober Nights 13 - 15 : The Tram, Five Dolls for an August Moon and The Card Player. All very enjoyable. #mariobava #italianhorror #darioargento #italiancinema #claudiosimonetti #giallo
Tonight's movie is No Time To Die, a pathetic, three-hour whine-fest that sullied the memory of the Bond franchise and that the universe could easily live without. Aside from ten minutes of Ana de Armas there's nothing to recommend this thing. #bond #badmovies #anadearmas #pleasestop
Mario Argentober Night Twelve : Hatchet for the Honeymoon. A couple of nights behind now, unsurprisingly. This one is fun but not amazing. Laura Betti stands out as the unpleasant Mildred. #tonightsmovie #giallo #mariobava #italianhorror #dagmarlassander #stephenforsyth #laurabetti
I totally agree, he could have been a fun red herring or a world-weary cop. He was always great in everything.
It's a shame really because in some ways I prefer it to Crystal Plumage. The soundtrack is great and the humour works better for me. You're so right about that last scene. The earliest Italian films I saw had Bud Spencer in so I always love seeing him in anything.
