The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

Thank you to @theobserveruk.bsky.social for giving attention today to the campaign for independent access to the BBC Written Archives. The Corporation is still yet to engage with our argument and properly defend the policy shift. That is because it is indefensible. observer.co.uk/news/nationa...

That Wes Streeting, a gay man who used to work at stonewall, is having to attempt to rebuild bridges with his own community because he burnt them by selling us out in the hope of getting his slimy hands on the keys to 10 Downing Street is shameful.

May he never be welcome in an LGBTQ+ space again.
"(Wes Streeting) has taken steps to build bridges with the LGBT+ community and stakeholders by hosting constructive, open and honest roundtable discussions, and has set out his intention to maintain an open dialogue and to continue to listen to all views."

Every word is a lie.
Really looking forward to this whole issue. Two articles already available (Rebecca’s, and Faye Woods’s), #openaccess. 📺

Finally made it to the fabulous @queerbritain.bsky.social — and also managed to lose an hour in @unioftheartslondon.bsky.social’s brilliant Transcestry exhibition, celebrating 10 years of the Museum of Transology. It’s on until 11 May, and is well worth a trip!
an episode of Saturday Variety (ATV, 10 June 1972) opens with Lionel Blair singing a very energetic song about balloons (with a dance troupe and A LOT of balloons), only to be completely upstaged by Larry Grayson who leaps onto the stage after the number holding a rather suggestively arranged bunch.
From some viewing I did today at the BFI Mediatheque for a potential new project:
A scene from the life of an early career researcher; or, a covering letter.
Chris Lang has knocked it out of the park – again.
