Beat up on them all you want, it’s good we still have a media outlet with reporters on the ground in Kabul.

I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

This is a hell of a piece.
The East Wing Obscenity

This piece is on the free side of the paywall, and I have to admit that writing it made me more sad than I could have imagined. The ugly destruction isn’t just to a building, but to memory, history, and American grace.

Trump is aggressively ignorant. He does not learn, actively resists it, and has surrounded himself with people who enable his stupidity.

Really important.
reposting with alt text because this feels incredibly significant. the right-wing disinfo machine means a lot of the people grieving Charlie Kirk never heard any of the things he said that would have tarnished his brand as Guy Who Just Wants to Have Dialogue Across the Aisle

An example of two of the most important aspects of this moment:

Established programs that were central to the economy and lives of specific populations, ones you probably never knew about, are being destroyed by people who didn’t know about them either and..:

How far we’ve fallen, and how fast.
This is an overt cash bribe to a sitting president, and we’ve apparently sunk so far that nobody involved feels any shame or questions whether they’ll get away with it.
This may sound old fashioned, but again it’s worth saying. 60 Minutes did nothing wrong. This is a payoff for merger approval.

Donald Trump, a weak and dangerously reckless president, has put the United States on a path to a war in the Middle East that the country does not want, the law does not allow, and our security does not demand.

I just like to post these data from time to time to puncture the mythological aura of mid 20th c protests. They were less popular than pretty much any 21st c mass action & people criticizing them used the same lines. Protest is about people coming together, shaping narratives, & building power.

IMPORTANT: Before the fascist attack on Senator Alex Padilla, Kristi Noem said that her gestapo in California were staying to "liberate the city socialist and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country."

Don't let that slide by.

Noem should apologize for what happened to Padilla. She should be impeached for saying DHS was there to “liberate” Californians from the governor and mayor they elected.

Not sure why people who know full well that the extreme right played the role of infiltrator and provocateur during the BLM protests in 2020 and saw 1/6 with their own eyes fail to ask whether any of the troublemakers in LA are not legit. Watch for more provocations in the weeks to come.

You can argue the merits of deporting Marcelo—a young man brought here at age 5—if you want to. But this is someone we should be proud to call American. He’s solid on every level. And if you’re really a Christian, you should be lifting him up, not casting him out.

Listen w/an open mind—and heart.

This thread rings true with my long experience in headline-writing. The pursuit of eyeballs, clicks and newsstand sales is also part of the process.
okay, headline chat: a bunch of you have asked me who writes them and how they work. I’ll talk about it but the tl;dr is that it’s complicated and can vary a lot depending on the specific writer(s) and editor(s) involved.
