Putin is worried that Trump might give Ukraine long range missiles. Hence the need for a face to face meeting where he can flatter Trump and gull him into believing that he's interested in peace (Nobel Peace prize Trumpster), when all he wants is to delay/stop deployment of the missiles.

We don't have to supply weapons to anyone in Syria. What we need to do is to give economic assistance and help in building democratic institutions & discouraging neighbours - notably Israel and Turkey - from interfering. It was your approach which gave us al-qaeda. And I know as much as you.

Like what do you know. I've studied Russia since 1967. They may well face a period of decline and instability if the war goes badly & after Putin dies. But the essentials of the country's resources and population mean that dying is a silly hyperbole.
