Figured I'd take the chance to write up a (warning: long) blog post highlighting some of the work I'm particularly proud of over the years for AUKN. I'm surprised I found the energy after being at work, but I was feeling inspired today I guess.
A Ten Year Review: AUKN Edition
As I write this on October 23rd 2025, it has been ten years since my first AnimeUKNews review was published. Which I think makes for the perfect opportunity to look back on some of the things I&#82…

Arceus is my favourite of all the Switch Pokemon games. I absolutely loved exploring and catching Pokémon in old age Sinnoh. So that absolutely hasn’t helped Z-A which feels like a downgrade in so many ways in comparison.
I don’t think I’ll bother with the post game as friends have mentioned there being grind and I am burnt out on that from the tournament stuff. I’ll probably just swap back to playing Ghost of Yotei.
Finished Pokemon Legends Z-A. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. I think the story is one of the better ones this generation, the writing and music are good. But I was never sold on the concept of being stuck just in the city. A lot of little gripes added up by the end too. It was fun for what it was.
Not super into the Touring After the Apocalypse anime, but if you had to get someone to play the AI radio presenter then Matsuoka was a good shout. For the first time I felt like they did justice to that storyline and got what made it tick. The manga is still infinitely better tho.
The more I play Pokemon Z-A and talk to these absolutely unhinged NPCs the more I come to believe that only me and Emma are actually sane in this entire region. And maybe Corbeau but I’d be shocked if he hadn’t come here from Johto.
Had one of those work days where it’s busy but also need to keep my brain switched on at all times rather than auto pilot through. Looking forward to going home and watching Yoasobi

I have watched the live action too! I thought it was a good adaptation, definitely captured the atmosphere well and it stars Kenichi Matsuyama who I really like so that helped ☺️
For a moment I wondered if that had come out in English without me realising, then read the alt text. XD Glad you seem to be enjoying it, it’s really interesting all the way to the end (I was reading it when it was being serialised still)

Awwww no, i’m sorry to hear.
I know it doesn’t feel like that long! Thank you ☺️
AUKN has given me so many opportunities over the years to write about the things I love. Actually I don’t think a lot of publications would have let me review all of A Sister’s All You Need. 😆

That freedom gave me the room to become a better writer over time (I hope). Here’s to another 10?
Today is actually ten years since AUKN published my first review for them. As it apt for me, it was a light novel lol. AUKN has been an important part of my life all this time, and I’m grateful to work with such a wonderful team and my delightful editor @sarahash7.bsky.social! Thank you always 🙇‍♀️
Attack on Titan: The Harsh Mistress of the City Volume 1 • Anime UK News
I’ve always found myself having a very love-hate relationship with Attack on Titan. It’s a series that I took interest in because of the anime adaption but it’s never been one that I could really get ...

I’d really like to see that too, it would be extremely cute and well suited to anime
There’s actually a spin-off manga that just follows him exclusively on little adventures and side stories that take place alongside the main story. Worth a look since you’re a fan of his too! :)
Woooah the new volume of Tokyo Aliens was waiting for me at home!! ✨
Started reading You Can’t See the Snow for my commute read. Uh, this is going to emotionally devastate me at some point right? I also really want to look up on the kanji for their names since it is so on the nose based on the pronunciation.
I hope you’re right and I’m just overly negative about it lol. And yeah I’m with you on that I’m not too fussed about what S3 will do, later books are more interesting. I like the idea of the film being an original by the author rather than shoving a LN adaptation in tho!
It’s frustrating because I think a TV series or movie on its own next year would be absolutely fine, but both is not good.
I mean given what happened with S2, I highly doubt it now you’re shoving two projects into production at the exact same time. And it’s OLM, they’re not flush with staff and resources given they have to juggle Pokemon all the time. There’s a reason Zom 100 chose them as the black company…
Honestly I can’t bring myself to be excited about Apothecary Diaries when you’re trying to take what was already a hellish production and churn out a film for the end of next year AND two cours of anime (at least it’s split…). Again! Just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
It does not have an English release it looks like, but the J-Talk article gave me a good idea of what it’s about and I’ll probably pick it up at some point.
I googled 店長がバカすぎて since it came up on my feed, which then led me to discover it’s by the same author who wrote Royal Family which I’m currently watching the drama for. And then when I googled if there was an English translation it led me to Japanese Talk’s review. So many unexpected connections!
