I’ve often talked to you about how steel is a national security issue.  Well the fact of the matter is, so is farming.  In Northwest Indiana and Indiana it is the heartbeat of our economy.
I’m ready, willing, and able to find a bipartisan solution to open government, make sure people get paid, and make sure people have access to healthcare.
I’m honored to nominate students from Indiana’s First Congressional District for appointment to the U.S. Military Service Academies. I encourage all interested students to apply for this invaluable opportunity to obtain a college education while serving our nation.

I remain committed to working with anyone, anywhere, anytime to reopen our government, protect access to healthcare, and ensure that no hardworking American misses a paycheck.
It is unfortunate that instead of Congress coming to a bipartisan agreement to fund all military operations and keep the federal government open, we are now scrambling at the final hour to ensure our troops do not miss a paycheck.
The federal government has been shutdown for 9 days. I’m ready to go to DC to vote for opening the government, ending the healthcare crisis, & adding certainty to our economy & our healthcare.
Thank you to the leaders of Daifuku and all of our local stakeholders and workers for this exemplary effort to advance innovation and economic growth in our region.

I thank FedEx for believing in Gary and Northwest Indiana, and I applaud the men and women of the Building Trades whose work builds not just projects, but more economic opportunities for everyone.
By working together locally, statewide, and federally we built the infrastructure that made this $60 million investment and 600 new jobs possible.

Wishing everyone observing Yom Kippur in Northwest Indiana a meaningful time of reflection and renewal.
The American people deserve stability and certainty, and a commitment from public servants to find bipartisan solutions. I encourage Speaker Johnson to call the House back into session so we can complete this necessary work.
I serve on the House Appropriations Committee because that is where bipartisan conversations occur, and I stand ready to work across the aisle to keep our government open, lower costs, expand access to health care, and strengthen our communities.
Their dysfunction will harm our economy and hardworking Americans, who do not have the luxury of simply walking away from their jobs.
This shutdown is the result of the Republican Majority’s inability to govern, and because they are unable to agree among themselves and unwilling to compromise with Democrats.
With a government shutdown just 12 hours away, the majority is in control of the House, the Senate, and the White House.  I’m in Washington, D.C. ready to find common ground and protect access to healthcare.
Appreciate the opportunity to stop by the recent NAACP Hammond Branch scholarship award event.  Congratulations to all of the award winners and I wish you continued success in all of your endeavors.
Grateful for the opportunity to visit the Carmeuse plant in Gary & meet with all the leaders and members of organized labor. Thank you for your dedicated efforts and I will continue to do all I can to advocate for the strength of the Northwest Indiana steel and manufacturing industries in Congress.

This reckless action undermines efforts to establish a sustainable aviation fuel blending hub in East Chicago, a project that would reduce harmful emissions, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and open new markets for American workers and businesses.
