It's go time. Covies won't know what hit 'em.

I'm here to improve the market for these oddball gamepads. The N64 is particular about analog stick input and I haven't discovered a third-party option that offers the same precision as OG hardware (though some get close).

Lastly, you shouldn't have to pay this much for a refurbished controller.
An online listing for a gray Nintendo 64 controller priced at $39.99. Yikes
Every joystick assembly is lubricated with synthetic grease to reduce friction, improve feel, and lengthen assembly component lifespan. Also, I never describe any stick above a "9/10". 10/10 is strictly reserved for new in box.

"w/tight rebuilt joystick" stands for the joystick assembly utilizing replacement parts. The gears are sourced from N64Gears. The bowl and thumbstick are sourced from Kitsch-Bent. I have found this combination to be the best result at restoring OEM stick values🕹️

An online product listing showing a green Nintendo 64 controller. The controller has a left D-pad, central analog joystick, red start button, blue A button, green B button and four yellow C-directional buttons. Listing details below show a price of $24.95+, sold by Remnant Controllers, ships from Michigan and a dropdown labeled “Controller & Extension Cable".
My earnest N64 joystick listing guide thread.

"w/tight joystick" stands for the joystick assembly is all OEM parts save for the thumbstick itself. Those will always get replaced to ensure the contact point with the bowl reduces as much center play as possible 🕹️

Blurb from the October newsletter about Rumble Rod Nintendo 64 controller 🎣

A true MadCatz treasure.
The trivia section of the Remnant Tribune reads: "Tribune Trivia: A Fishing Rod Controller

You read that right. MadCatz produced the Rumble Rod controller, a fishing-rod–shaped gamepad. It featured a slot for the standard issue N64 Rumble Pak as well as a flexible rod tip that physically bends when you hook and reel in a catch. Two AAA batteries are required to power the latter function. There are two compatible games that take advantage of the Rumble Rod; Bassmasters 2000 and In-Fisherman Bass Hunter 64 (otherwise known as Bass Hunter 64 outside North America).

I would like to try out one of these oddball controllers for myself. Given they are a rare find I don’t expect I will have that opportunity anytime soon. Considering the infamous reputation of the OEM N64 controller, the Rumble Rod fits right in with the console." Nintendo 64 Rumble Rod controller shaped like a fishing pole, with a black plastic handle, built-in spinning reel, slender rod extending upward, and coiled cable plug. The handle features a D-pad, five face buttons in green, red, yellow, blue, and gray, and a ‘MadCatz’ logo.”
It is a great time of year for Castlevania 🕯 I'll be in the chat supporting Dave and his effort to stop the Count. He might even show us his N64 controller 🤩
I'm scared... for multiple reasons...

Nice to hear the needle moves, even if it is slow going.
Did you bring enough to share with the class?
Glass half full silver lining: The spongey enemies play into the hopless/dark feeling a game like Shadowman goes for.

Contextual bullet sponges 🧽
I picked mine up mostly for travel with my Switch. It was also nice to open it up and see how Nintendo re-manufactured it. Replacement parts for the joystick assembly aren't avaliable (yet) so I made sure to lube it up. Hopefully it lasts 🤞

It is surprisingly accurate to the OG stick values!
Pretty good! I managed to 3 star all of the 150cc Grand Prix cups. Knockout Tour is another story, I brought home the gold at least 😅

Missing the X button to check vehicle stats and the ability to look behind you. You can use the C buttons to slowly rotate the camera, but it ain't ideal 🎥
