Similar with my mom (though she wasn’t an amazing woman), she’d throw dill in the moussaka instead of oregano and in winter the moussaka was never fully cooked because she really didn’t realise in winter tomatoes and aubergines are hard as hell and need more cooking. Still love her moussaka.

And yet… her moussaka is still my favourite food and I can’t replicate it.
Who else loves a dish their mother made that isn’t quite right but you crave it nonetheless

I’d love to work in a museum, but high educational requirements close the door to my application as I am in nearly everything autodidact.
The ironic thing is I do get freelance assignments from museums… I can actually bring in people.

Low pay in the museum sector has a detrimental impact on workforce attraction, retention and wellbeing.

Led by @tamsincrussell.bsky.social, we’ll be exploring how to redress poor pay and implement more equitable pay policies in our next session in the lecture theatre at 3.20pm 💷

Ban the anti-fasism movement ‘Antifa’.
The world is going more crazy and dangerous every day. We’re back in the 1930’s.

500 pies are going fast at the museum today! There is also a beautiful booklet with the two recipes I translated from the originals by one of the Plantin Moretus women. And my waffle iron has a temporary home at the museum, next to the recipe book.

Tomorrow at museum Plantin Moretus a taste of a 17th century pie from the records of one of the Plantin women. Do check out the new expo about the women who lived in the famous printing house. I’ll be there at 12 tomorrow!

With a quote from the wonderful @oliahercules.bsky.social - author of Mamushka and Strong roots - about the meaning of Ukrainian embroidery.

I just closed about 60 internet windows on my laptop and now need a lie down… what if I closed something I still needed?! Some had been open for at least a year 😅
regulaysewijn.bsky.social
So cute! Did you buy it? I have a pretzel and a broccoli myself and I’m not too ashamed to admit I bought them! 🥨 🥦

Fairytale-like, found this for sale at Abe! Printed in 1510 it is the earliest printed story of Cinderella, here she is pictured in the kitchen. Written by Johannes Geiler Von Keysersberg, printed by Mattias Schürer in Strasburg. Binding is pigs skin according to the seller. If I had 20.000 euros…

People these days no longer take the time to comment, I am often guilty of it too, but I often wonder why to go on publishing my writing until you get a comment from lovely Nigella - it made my day 🙏🏻

I’m applying for a literary grant to help fund research/writing for my next book. In my application I have to convince the board that my books (combination of culinary history, art history, memoir and historical recipes) are in fact a work of “literature”. My last book was 100K words.
