Chaired the Ocean Observation session at the ABLOS Conference in Doha 🇶🇦 — 200+ participants debating: Is UNCLOS still fit for purpose today?

A theme I explore in my ICLQ article 👉 lnkd.in/eMWY7SXt

Great discussions, new connections & generous Qatari hospitality.

Delighted to read another review of Islands, Law and Context: The Treatment of Islands in International Law, in the International Journal of Marine and Coastal Law. Many thanks to Dr Nelson F Coelho (Aalborg) for such a considered and thoughtful review. Available at: brill.com/view/journal...

Seems like an appropriate thread to rant about this: At a recent conference, the organizers (no less) reserved places at Conference Dinner to ensure the select few were seated together! Hilariously, the supposed aim of the event was to listen to new thinkers in the field. Shocker: this won’t help.
Bluesky seems a nice enough place to say this. If you go to your industry/academic conference and spend all your time catching up with professional friends - you are part of the reason newcomers call the conference “cliquey and unwelcoming”. If you’re established, talk to newcomers. It’s that easy.

Thank you @reecelewis.bsky.social for putting the old law of the sea crew back together on a new and improved platform. Share, find, add, shout out, you all know what to do.....
Inspired/encouraged to do a law of the sea starter pack (probably not comprehensive so feel free to suggest additions!) go.bsky.app/9tsqVmb

Loving these starter packs. So helpful. Anyone know if there’s a law of the sea one?
