Now imagine this same IOU from your friend. Imagine taking THE SAME IOU to multiple different lenders, and promising all of them to pay them the money your friend owes you. This is blatantly illegal and is what First Brands is accused of doing.

This is a way to solve what is called “turnover” in capital volume 2. Producers have to produce commodities all the time, but there is a lag between when the product goes out their door and when it reaches a buyer. Corporate paper transfers this risk to the lender.

imagine having a IOU that your friend wrote you and taking that to a bank and them giving you 95% of the money your friend owes you on the promise of you give them 100% of that money when your friend pays you. Now imagine doing that with thousands of friends. That’s corporate paper.

The real question is why does a company like chipotle or mcdonalds think that they need a service like this for their customers to be incentivized to buy from them. I would simply sell things at a price people can afford.

the buy now pay later companies like klarna make sense once you learn that most of their revenue comes from subscriptions to the companies to offer the service rather than any money made on the short term loans. It’s just another kind of invoice backed business line.
