Did you see the new pressing of this? I got an email today about it!
I will fight people who say their first two albums aren’t brilliant. Greg Brown’s guitar playing is excellent and so cool to hear him dance alone within the confines of the song as opposed to being the backbone of all of them.
Can you elaborate on the value of the record itself? I don’t mean the collectibility or anything but rather BSM records are NOT cheap and I’ve never bought one. Is it worth it? Can you really hear anything different?
I felt gross after the first scene. Hell, the first shot. That heavy linger way too close on way too long and way too noisy/wet of a kiss?

Yuck.
FYI: I make these by photographing my records, erasing the background, & slowly changing the background color to make a smooth transition from one to the next.

THIS one involved using a photo from the dark & layering it onto a daylight photo to really get the glow. It isn’t that green in daylight.
Kids also falls into that category for me.
Discogs might as well be a news site. I logged in and saw this week’s top selling vinyl and CDs were all D’Angelo and was like “well, that can’t be good.”

Glow in the dark RSD Essential.

Truly essential. What a banger of an album and a master class in song/album dynamics AND a great example of taking full advantage of a medium for the buyer.

And the drums/guitars are great.
What are your favorite band accounts on Bluesky? It seems like most of my favorites are either not on here or generally quiet so I’d like to follow more.

Did y’all know @skeletunesrecords.com is releasing an exclusive Danger Days vinyl? It’s limited to 200 (well, now 199).

For those who don’t know, Danger Days is a punk supergroup who released a great track on a split 7” with @mercymusic.bsky.social (another great buy) and you should check them out!
Fancy “Because Sound Matters” presses.

Worth it? No? At what point in a system/budget will I be able to hear the difference?

I told my therapist it’s best managed if you set a hard budget and try to stick to it.

Also, I picked up a Sony Bluetooth turntable with USB and it’s fine. Can’t change the cartridge but you CAN change the stylus.

But it can get SO expensive SO fast if you let it.
Those kids who spent lunch breaks at the school playground trading collectible cards? The ones talking about how rarities effect value or the ones who love making deals or the completionists?

They’re record nerds now.

Guaranteed.

I wrestle with the consumerist nature of buying vinyl. But I’m also clinically depressed and, in these WILDLY trying times, records are one of the few things that bring me joy.

So I say take your joy wherever you can get it if it doesn’t hurt anyone and be kind to yourself.
If you haven’t checked this out yet, give it a shot.
My son loves to joke that my birthday isn’t on my actual birthday & picked 13 Oct.

This year he decided he was too excited to wait for then and gave me my present today.

The present? 21 Pilots’ “Breach.”

I love it both only because it’s great, but because HE loves it and wanted to share with me.
I fell off after their second album, because I was starting to look for more and they had sorta locked into their sound at that point.

But that first album was perfect. The perfect length, the perfect angst/anger, the perfect grooves, and it’s way less cringey than other edgy rock from that era.
That album is wildly good and pretty damn underrated. I feel like if it had come out five years prior, they would have been bigger than it actually was. Still. Such a fun listen and a fantastic closing track, too. What a pleasant come-down.
Sounds like they let a middle-schooler fulfill a dying wish of writing for a big publication.

Little Johnny might not be around next week, but at least he got to go out telling the world he knew absolutely nothing about music.
Besides the very end where they had to include the video game portion.

Ugh.
I will say, though, that after watching FANTASTIC docs like Camp Crystal Lake Memories and Never Sleep Again, I wish a LOT more time was spent on more than just the first score.
6 is probably in the running for most cohesive score.

So many scores change tempo, urgency, melody, etc so much since they’re built around the movie.

Which is fair.

But when a score sounds like a complete piece and not disjointed, it’s great. And 6 is that. It’s COHESIVE. It blends. Check it out!
