How do you protect books on the bottom shelf from pets?

I have floor to ceiling shelves that are nearly full. One of my dogs peed on two lower shelves (and miraculously missed the books). I just don’t have a place for the larger heavy books like yearbooks and scrapbooks.

Help!?

Every time I see teachers post about reading The Poet X in class, my heart breaks a little because my school district banned it. It remains the most powerful catalyst to get teens reading I’ve ever taught.
