My dad grew up in a Welsh speaking household, but almost never spoke Welsh, despite being capable of doing so. Welsh was spoken in my primary school - but we always spoke English at home. My son had the same experience in Singapore - we didn’t speak Mandarin & his gran only spoke Cantonese & English
😁 😂 It’s been damn hard work this week remembering lots of the vocab, but I’m getting there!
After a long absence from my Korean language lessons, I’m really pleased to be starting learning again tomorrow morning. Now going back through some old worksheets in the vain hope I can desperately refresh my basic language knowledge so my teacher doesn’t totally give up on me tomorrow😁
Not quite the speeds JR2TTS gets in Japan (bsky.app/profile/minu...) - but you’re still both killing me against my measly 80Mbps VDSL connection😬😂
Meanwhile, I turned on the big desktop for the first time in nearly three months, because it's been too hot. Now that it's finally below 30°C in here, time for some games.
Nice to know the speeds are still there...
Oh that looks amazing! Good luck turning those words and pictures into a triumphant edible celebration for your family!
My wife is almost OCD about her workspace. I can assure you that my side of the workshop will look more like a family of badgers has been dragged backwards through a bush…
Err…it’s currently much less tidy! This is what is should be more like…but there are a mountain of packing crates there right now
Lol! Present wrapping is definitely one of her most favourite things to do…but I know she’s making some gift boxes for various family members right now (nit me😁) - christening presents, birthday presents and some thank you gifts. Keeps her busy for a few hours!
My wife has got active projects now going on all of the workbench space currently usable in our workshop😬. I think it’s her way of telling me to tidy up the other side of the workshop…
Glad the antibiotics have been helping and your feeling better👍
Amen to that! Prescription drugs help as well…there that certain age when the daily tablet regime prescribed by the Dr almost make you rattle each morning 😂
They do get a tad toasty if you run them with the original thermal pads and heatsinks. I upgraded the thermal pad and went overkill on the heatsink too😁. KA7OEI has an excellent article on the thermal upgrades ka7oei.blogspot.com/2023/08/impr...
After months of being a bit under the weather and listless, I’m finally starting to get some radio mojo back. This weekends projects are to finish mounting an upgraded RX888 Mk2 (improved heat management and low frequency performance), and design/print a case for a N4CY bias-t

The NDB and tuner on the lower left. It was being decommissioned and being tossed.
That’s just an awesome rack of gear!!
Agreed…expensive, indulgent, but I’ve realised life’s too short to not enjoy an occasional treat
Lovely model engineering/watchmakers lathes - but they come in quite expensive from new😳. I managed to find one second hand at a great price cowells.com

In Singapore I had Sim Lim Square and Sim Lim Tower just down the road…extremely useful for electronics components and computer gear. Sometime too handy…especially after champagne fuelled Sunday brunches😳
Classic industrial colour scheme! My mini lathes is dark blue and cream 👍
Absolutely! When the weather improves I’ll overhaul it and get it up and running…at the moment my side of the garage is used for storing everything, whereas my wife seems to have claimed the workbench side!
🤣 it’s always good when she drags me to that place…their shop is a goldmine of lathes, drills etc. I bought a BCA jig borer from them a while back…just waiting for me to give it some TLC
