A home for all my geeky stuff: Wargames, board games, occasional computer games...anything geeky. As FB becomes less habitable, I will probably port over less geeky, but still uninteresting things, like my latest parkrun experience.

Parkrun 231 South Woodham Ferrers: 24.05. Not a bad run on a hard uneven surface along a coastal river. Good facilities but 1.5 hours away so not a returning one. Friendly and small. I could have pushed more but wasn't in the mood too. Smooth splits too (4.45, 4.53, 4.52, 4.51, 4.42).
Did my first 10km run since 2018. It was not fun but I managed it. My hip ached after 7km and I think I can smell blood. I am hoping this will be a weekly thing so I can improve my health.
I have been listening to Discworld audiobooks for a few years on Youtube, now it seems the channel with them all on has been taken down/vanished etc. Gutted :(
Dark City was playing at the Arts. A gritty, low budget, noir-esque, weird film with random psychic fun. It feels like it took everything from Geiger, Carpenter, Dune, and loads of other things to tell a story and that's it. Hard to imagine that the Matrix came out the next year.
If I actually painted anything, this would be a nightmare.
Parkrun 230: Henlow Bridge lakes. Tiring 24.15. Nice trail run around lakes, 2.5 laps with a 14mx3 incline makes for hard going. Pretty and friendly with good facilities (though no cafe). Will go back occasionally. Also, Stopwatch bingo hit!
Parkrun 229, Bug Hunter Waters. Very windy so many places closed. Flat but I found it hard going. I ran very smoothly (km splits: 4.51 4.49 4.57 4.51 4.51) though cadence dropped. Also my heart rate went down after 2.5km but it's a watch recording it. Again missed a stopwatch bingo time.
Battletech: 2-way, 4x4 mirror match at the weekend. Many shots fired, many shots missed. Gave up so many kicks to the head.
Proper rumble!
(Mercury, Shadow hawk, Commando and Black Knight)
Parkrun 228. Panshanger: Really pretty 1 lap run around a wood. 2 hills (in blue) and a bottleneck make it quite challenging but manged to get a 23.59. Very dusty too so will now have TB.
Battlemech: 3rd group of 4 painted, House Imarra. Quite fun to paint these.
Parkrun 227: Snowden Field. 4 Lapper with few people, add not really feeling it, poor diet and stiff legs meant a struggling 25.04. Can't all be wonderfully interesting and PBs, but another tick on the tourist. Steady pace at 4.47, 4.53, 4.56, 4.55. 4.52, even if speed was all over the place.
Parkrun 226: Finally ran Brandon. Nice trail, wooded run. Half downhill (yellow/red), half up hill (blue). 24.35 is a good time here as uphill is also sandy. You can see the difficulty by the pace graph.
Loving Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights at the moment. Very in-depth for a 2d side scroller. Beautiful to watch and listen too. Another thing that is useful is that as it's 4 years old, reddit is FULL of 'how to complete' or 'where next!!?' subreddits that I might stand a chance of finishing!
Battletech: House Imarra colour scheme. Tried a little on the screen too.
Parkrun 225: Coldhams lane for pacer week. Decided to push myself and got a course PB, 23.53. My muscles seem fine, I just can't get air into my lungs anymore. Need to work on that. Good Split times too, steady increase.: 4.55, 4.47, 4.45, 4.42, 4.35.
My next art project, playing with light.
Mechwarrior: Been a while, time to bring the toys.
Parkrun 224: Milton, perfect conditions and a 24.08. Shows the difference a faster course and a can of energy drink makes (FYI, about 30 seconds). Back to the running times of March when I got a little niggle.
No picture today as my watch hates trees as says I walked 90% of it.
I'm on Men at Arms in my continuing attempt to listen to all the discworld novels. I forgot the twist was at the beginning. I think Pterry was watching Columbo when he wrote it.
Has to read the Ahnk Morpork TTRPG rules soon.
Blood Bowl: First game with Elven Union. It went very badly. My Norse opponent took out 7 guys in the first half (we played resurrection on halves as our teams are new), then the ref sent off my guy on the kick off! I learned very little as I had bad dice (4 snake eyes). Yay, new league!
First Notting Hill Carnival. Very loud and busy, but a great joyous, friendly atmosphere.
7th fastest ever, and 3rd fastest first 3km...not that I have a spreadsheet or anything.
