⚖️ No more favoritism
💰 Fair pay

Let me be clear: no worker should go broke just because they got sick or hurt. But in America, a hospital bill can cost more than your house. That’s not care. That’s exploitation.

Workers across the country are rising up and saying ENOUGH to corporate greed.

We won’t settle for less than what we’ve earned! Fair pay, safe conditions, and respect for ALL workers.

The working class is fed up with a system where greedy top CEOs make 285x what workers make—and the Trump admin’s anti-worker agenda is only widening that gap.

Working families deserve better.
The gap between CEO and worker pay keeps increasing—and Trump’s policies are making it grow faster
The average CEO-to-worker-pay ratio for S&P 500 Index companies in 2024 was 285 to 1. And CEOs are about to get a large tax cut.

From the new AFL-CIO executive paywatch report:

The average American CEO got a 7% raise last year, meaning he now makes 285 times more than his median worker.

A stunning 39% of parents say they can’t afford back-to-school shopping this year.

44% of parents plan to take on debt during back-to-school shopping.

More than 50% of parents plan to sacrifice necessities like groceries to ensure their child has what they need for school.

They want us to believe it’s normal to work full-time and still struggle to feed our families.

Meanwhile, CEOs rake in millions.

Nope. That's one reason we organize.

Every single person. No matter their job. Deserves a living wage.

The person working the register at your local grocery store should… indeed… be able to afford housing, healthcare, food, and more with their income.

When a worker dies on the job, OSHA's maximum penalty is less than $17,000. That’s not justice—it’s a bargain for employers who cut corners.

America’s unions rallied today to launch our nationwide “It’s Better in a Union: Fighting for Freedom, Fairness and Security” bus tour to build worker power and give working people—the backbone of America—a stronger voice.

We’ll see you on the road. aflcio.org/press/releas...
Labor Leaders, Workers Rally to Launch AFL-CIO’s ‘It’s Better in a Union’ Nationwide Bus Tour

Labor leaders and workers rallied today at the AFL-CIO headquarters to launch the nationwide “It’s Better in a Union: Fighting for Freedom, Fairness and Security” bus tour. While big corporations profit off the backs of working people and politicians continue to raise costs and cut essential lifesaving services, the labor movement will travel the country providing voice to and building power with workers in the lead up to Labor Day.

“Working people are the backbone of this country. We do the things our communities count on—at our schools and hospitals, factories and construction sites, small and big businesses—yet still too many families can’t keep food on the table, pay the rent, afford child care,” said AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler. The answer is not more of this same broken status quo. The answer is a good union job. The answer is working people in our communities—no matter who you are, how you voted—joining together and standing up for our freedom, fairness, and security.”

At the rally, labor leaders demanded “freedom, fairness and security” to launch the summer of action that will engage workers across the country about the issues facing their communities, their fights to organize workplaces and win fair contracts, and the impact of reckless policies on their lives. The bus tour will visit 26 states to join picket lines, support organizing campaigns, visit Veterans Affairs and Medicaid-funded facilities and hospitals gutted by DOGE, and speak directly with workers whose jobs have been ripped away by unnecessary cuts driven by the Trump administration. “Working people have been betrayed by this administration—by the elected leaders who sold out the working class to the billionaire class. And we’re going to let them know. We are going to crisscross the country and talk to workers. We’re getting on this bus to make sure they know who sold us out—who is taking our jobs, our health care, our paychecks. To make sure every working person knows there’s a place for them on this bus,” said AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Fred Redmond.

Rally speakers included Liz Shuler, President, AFL-CIO; Fred Redmond, Secretary-Treasurer, AFL-CIO; Lee Saunders, President, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME); Evelyn DeJesus, Executive Vice President, American Federation of Teachers (AFT); Claude Cummings Jr., President, Communications Workers of America (CWA); Matthew Biggs, President, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE); Jimmy Williams Jr., General President, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT); Eric Dean, General President, International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers (Ironworkers); Nick Daniels, President, National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA); Tyler Turner, President, Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU); April Verrett, President, Service Employees International Union (SEIU); Gwen Mills, International President, UNITE HERE; and David McCall, International President, United Steelworkers (USW).

After the kickoff rally, the “Better in a Union” bus joined UNITE HERE Local 23 for a rally to protect food service jobs at the U.S. House of Representatives. The bus will next head to join the USW on Saturday, July 12, in Newport News, Virginia. The event will highlight the impact of Trump administration cuts to veterans’ jobs and services. Follow along with the bus tour @AFLCIO on all platforms.

America’s unions are hitting the road this summer to meet with workers, organize, and fight for our freedoms, fairness and our security—because they’re ALL on the line thanks to the Trump admin’s big, ugly anti-worker agenda.

Service workers from the South gathered in Selma to honor our movement ancestors. On the Edmund Pettus Bridge, we felt their courage—and carry it with us. From Selma to Louisiana, we march for immigrant rights and justice for all. The fight isn’t over. #SolidaritySummer

Today we kicked off the Justice Journey from Durham, NC heading down to Louisiana with 100s of workers from across the country.

We’re standing up for our union siblings unjustly detained by ICE.

338 hospitals across the country are at risk of closing if the Senate’s budget bill makes cuts to Medicaid.

Working families need health care more than billionaires need another tax break. Lawmakers should be expanding health care access, not gutting it.

Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians would be put in jeopardy—just to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. We’re not having it.

We depend on Medicaid, the ACA, and SNAP to survive. We won’t let politicians trade our lives for corporate profits without a fight.
raiseupthesouth.bsky.social
We know what’s at stake: our healthcare, food assistance, and communities. This bill would:
❌ Kick 10.9M people off health insurance
❌ Slash funding for health centers & rural hospitals
❌ Gut nearly $300B from SNAP

🧵 We stood with community allies to rally and march outside the offices of Senators Thom Tillis and Ted Budd, demanding they vote NO on the Big Really Bad Bill. #ProtectMedicaid #HandsOffMedicaid #OrganizeTheSouth
